For an American Lit. Class I'm taking, I had to write a poem. I'm not very skilled at writing poetry, but I thought I'd share it with y'all!
A New Beginning
When the world began, as we all did,
It was perfect, fresh, unflawed.
There was nothing ugly to be hid,
In this precious gift from God.
--
As time moved on, the world did too,
Changing, learning, growing,
Corruption came, leaving few
Who understood the trouble sowing.
--
Today the world’s an imperfect place,
With poverty, death, and sin,
It can be hard to find a trace,
Of how the world had once been.
--
Every spring when winter leaves,
A season will appear,
Time to say goodbye to grieves,
And watch for new beginnings here.
--
Whether flower bud or newborn sheep,
They’re perfect and brand new,
Taking a courageous leap,
Into the world anew.
--
During this time of peace and birth,
I take the time to think,
About the change something of worth,
Can undertake within a blink.
--
We should try our best to look
At these new births with hope.
Perhaps we’ll find we just mistook,
The world’s unfailing downward slope.
--
Each new beginning’s a fresh start,
A chance to make amends.
We each can try to do our part,
To try and comprehend.
--
Why have we been challenged so,
Put in a world with so much sinning?
Perhaps it is for us all to know,
To treasure each new beginning.
