So I was looking at pictures of Gypsy Vanner horses on google and I noticed this pic...
This is my Horse Borie...
See a similarity in their markings? Are heart shaped patches like usual in a certain paint pattern? Like tobianos? Does anyone know? |

Where is the heart? Is it by the hip, near the back?
I think that its nothing unusual, because marking just kinda happen, there arent really guidelines in genetics. |

Actually I do know that some certain shapes do come through genetics. Both of these horses have heart shapes near the flank. I was just wondering if anyone knew the specifics of this marking... |

I've not personally been around many 'paint' horses....(Lol, we just call 'em either piebald or skewbald, regardless of pattern...) but I have noticed that horses that have white hairs across the back, neck, butt etc (and therefore coloured hairs elsewhere) tend to make more interesting shapes than those where its reversed...
Don't know if its a genetic thing or not....You can get a blaze on a foal where neither parent has any white markings so I think its just...Coincidence? |

Huh . . . There is probably a name for that specific pattern SOMEWHERE, but I don't know it . . . However, check out the chart on this website http://www.summertimefarm.com/faq.html . I know it's small, but both the second and fourth on the Tobiano side are similar to both your horse (he's cute, btw!), and the Gypsy Vanner. Hope this helps! |
