**This randomly popped up in my mind when I was analyzing "The Lady or the Tiger" for the millionth time. Critique welcomed, and I am curious as to what you think this is about. This is SUPPOSED to be confusing, btw.**
"Mute"
There was fear and regret in his eyes. Although no one else may have noticed it, she did. She saw that he wanted her safe and beside him, his arm wrapped around her as they watched the sunset fall. But it was not meant to be, and no one else noticed it. No one else cared.
Lips pressed together, brows scrunched up, but eyes open the whole time. She would watch him the whole time, to show that she did not forget it was his fault she was here. And he would have to hide his tears from the watchful eyes.
They had laughed together, but only in silence. They had loved together, but never voiced it. Only together they were open but closed.
Walking to where her life would be taken, and on her knees, her formerly beautiful gown ruined, she kept her eyes on him.
The guards led her to the room, where he stood. Where he betrayed her. His voice was cruel, but his eyes soft and apologetic.
He stared back, and opened his lips to mouth the words.
The gavel fell. A hard crack.
And she mouthed them back.
I love you. |
