OK I have a question for all the horse people out there as most know I have a 8 y.o. morgan mare named Brooklyn her right front hoof is deformed and both front have cracks the farrier said they are fine but she could benefit from a hoof and joint supplement as I do games and extensive trail riding(probably competitive next year) and he never recommended anything. So I was wondering if you guys know of any good hoof/joint supplements can be one for each thing.
I was also wondering if anybody has had good experience with Triple Crown Training or Low starch formulas that is what I am looking into to feed her instead of sweet feed which makes her hot. I know my first horse was on the senior formula but they have changed(I think) sense then.
Or if anybody has suggestions on a grain that is low in starch and sugar. |

I like the joint supplement Cortaflex, it seems to work really well. For a all over supplement though, I swear by Equipride. It helps joints, hooves, weight, coat condition and so much more. I've seen it work miracles on horses with bad joints. I have a friend who's horse has really bad navicular, she was going to put him down it was so bad untill she started him on the equipride. Now he's sound for light riding again, its really amazing stuff. I've also seen it help horses with bad hooves too.
I haven't tried any of the triple crown products, but I like purina senior a lot. You can call up your vet and ask him for advise, I'm sure he/she will be able to give you lots of great advise. |

I don't know what hoof supplements to recommend, but it seems weird your farrier wouldn't really recommend anything!
As for feed, for a horse that works alot, I would feed them dry cob and hay pellets with "Millennium Gold" vitamins. Wet cob works good if you want a horse with a TON of energy, like barrel racing or something, but other than that dry cob works good. I know it's not fancy or anything, but it really does work!

ok thanks. I knew there would be people that knew about this stuff. I am thinking about going with the triple crown as I have had the best experience and its in my price range. I am still going to do research on the supplements as I want it to be the right one. I also find it funny my farrier never said anything but then again he wasn't worried about the cracks but they are getting worse. |
