I finally got over grief and depression of selling my old pony, Cisco, and today, November 24th, welcomed "Scout", a 14.1 hh Bay Thoroughbred Gelding into my life!! He is only 5 but is such a quick learner and SO CALM. He is like an "old soul". He is so cute but the only thing bad is that he cribs terribly Sad He is a really tiny TB, but the great thing is that I can show him in large pony hunter, since I'm so small! And since he's only five, and I'm 13, I can show him for pretty much until I'm out of High School. He's a little green, but he jumps around 2' and is just learning lead changes. And the great thing is that he's BAY! No white (except for a white star on his head Smile )!! No more long hours of bathing yellow spots and stains before horse shows, he he. I have ridden him all summer occasionally, and because he is (or I should say was) my trainers horse, he was ridden lots and I figured him out over the past few months. I've had greenies all my horse life, and I was ready for a finished horse like the little Welsh/TB I was riding, but we couldn't afford her $15k sale price. Instead, we got little Scouty for only $3,500, and a steal for a A-Show ready pony! He is a great mover and I am hopeful for some big wins this year Smile Anyway, I'll include a pic (if I can find any) and feast your eyes for my new "boyfriend", lol.

With Love,

SisKate

I ride and help out at my local riding centre. But I'd love a horse of my own some day! Horses are a lot of work but they are so rewarding! =)

That is really great. I am really proud of you doing that! If there was any local centers near me, I would totally be helping too. Owning a horse is great fun, but so much work and pretty spendy. That's why SBF horses are so awesome, lol. You're right, they are so rewarding and especially in your type of situation, good for you for helping out there! Keep it up Smile I would love to participate in doing that someday, too.

Aww, he's the tiniest TB I've ever seen! Are you sure he's purebred? In the video he looks like he has a lot of potential, just needs to figure out how to use himself. Considering he's still a baby thats to be expected lol

Is your trainer going to be riding him for you every once and a while? Training a youngster is a big responsiblity but it can also be extremly rewarding. I love greenies, they don't have as much baggage as more experianced horses and I love the sence of accoplishment they can give you when you know you've helped them figure out something new. I hope you can both get lots of knowledge from your partnership Very Happy

If you ever want to chat about riding, give me a pm! I love talking about anything horses lol

Yep, he's purebred, but both his parents were small, and he's also a little thin because he's a cribber, but slowly gaining more and more weight (we put him on beet pulp, and he's doing great). Me and my trainder are the only people who have trained him besides the breaking part. He's only four, and is still growing, too, so probably will grow maybe a couple of inches in the next few years. He is perfect size for me, considering that I'm really short, too. I have had greenies all my life, and he's probably the one with the most experience starting out. My trainer will ride him only when I'm gone on vacation, or maybe at least three times a month. Yes, I agree, it's totally rewarding working with beginners once they are finished. I am so glad you like talking about horses! I do too, and I would love to talk about horses anytime. You can give me a PM, too if you want to talk about horses or riding as well. We can talk on here, too. So, do you have a horse or ride?

Does he get any turn out? I've noticed that it seems to help decrease the amout of cribbing they do, unless of course he's super hard core about it. Do you use a collar on him? I have a big TB/Hano mare and I also train other people's horses. I'll sned you a pm Very Happy

Yep, he lives in a nice all-weather paddock with a nice little shelter in it. Yes, it has amazingly decreased his cribbing SO MUCH. He used to be cribbing anytime he didn't have a bit in his mouth, when he lived in a stall. Now, he cribbs very occasionally and only half-heartedly Wink TB/Hano, wow! Sounds really great!! I would love to still talk to you.

Your so lucky! What I would give to have a horse! I'd love to have one when I'm older, as the chance of my parents getting me one is like nil. Hope you two have many happy years together! {By the way he's lovely!}

Thank you so much! I am so blessed to have a great new pony. Do you ride at all? Don't worry, you'll get a horse sooner or later. I had to wait and help my parents save for my first horse.
