Why do people care so much about stats?

I know they're used to do well in events but I just don't see the point because the winnings are usually so low.

Stats make them do better in events, make them worth more to sell, and produce better offspring. Some prizes are low, but it's not always the prizes that people enter events for. When your animal scores high in one event, it starts to do better in other events. The more events an animal places in events the better at showing it becomes. That also raises the value when buying, selling, or breeding the animal. For example, if your animal's profile says 2/0/0, then it has won an event twice. If it says 0/0/0, than the animal has gotten first in no events. The more events the animal has won, the better show animal it is. W/P/S. Wins, Places*, Shows*.

*Atleast, I think it's Places and Shows. I could never quite tell.

Show is just a fancy way of saying 3rd place. Just like Win = 1st and Place = 2nd. I guess its just a nicer way of doing it.
