Sad day :-(

Work has been horrible today. Our yard dog, Kane, had to be put to sleep. He's been with us ever since he was a pup and that was 19 years ago.
Unfortunatly we have all known the inevitable was about to happen for the past week. His arthritis has got worse, to the point that he was on the strongest medication possible and it wasn't working.
Then this morning he had a stroke. He was so disorientated and when I looked at him it was almost like he was pleading for me to end his suffering. We made the decision there and then and called the vet out.
He went so quickly, he'd just given up completely. He now has pride of place in our little pet cemetary.

Rest easy old friend. You will always be in my heart. xxxx

19 years old...wow, that's quite a long life. What breed was he? I'm sorry for your loss, and even though there may be a spot in your heart for him, there will always be room for more love. Be happy soon! Like Kane would want you to be. =)

Aww. I'm sorry mash.
He lived a pretty long life though. How did you origanally get him at the shelter?

Thank you Chilly and American. I know it was definatly the right thing to do.

He first came into the sanctuary as a puppy. He got rehomed to a lovely family but he obviously didn't like it as he ran off and made his way (on his own) back to the sanctuary. He was rehomed 3 times to different homes and each time he came back.

Eventually we decided to keep him and he's lived a free roaming life on the farm. He was such a wonderful dog. He got on with every animal and loved people, ideal for a yard dog.

The atmosphere has been so subdued at work today. I still keep expecting to see him lying in his bed. He was such a big part of everyone. He'll be sorely missed.

Oh and he was a Labradore cross.
