It looks to me like you are smudging too much. What stregth is your smudge tool set at? I would also recomend that you put the layer with your lineart on top of everything except you mane, tail, and eyes, that way you have a defined outline which is less distracting to the eye than the smudgy one you have now. The shading on the front of you barrel should follow the muscleing of the lega dn sholdure. when you horse is posed like yours is, it you come oup at almost a 90 degree angle.
Do you look at a referance while you color? I think its really helpful to have some when you are first learning or are doing a new pose. That way you can do more exact shading and highlighting which will give your horse a more 3D, muscled look. Did you use Khol's tutorial I gave you? I think she places her shading and highlights really well and it helps to add a lot off detail.
Losmios has a great mane tutorial, you should check it out: Part one, Part two They are for her odd greyscale coloring technique, but it pretty easy to figure out how to do the same thing with colors. You can do tails using the same method. |
