a temporary new kitty!
I've been feeding a stray on the porch for nearly two months. When I first started seeing him, he ran if the curtains moved. Not long ago, when the weather started to turn cold, I could hear him meowing for food, but he wouldn't come close until I set the bowl down and went back inside. Then he would approach if I sat perfectly still and left the bowl a couple yards away, but if I moved, he ran, and he hissed if I tried to pet him.
Just about two weeks ago, he let me pet his head. Then he started rubbing on me. Then he climbed into my lap. And now he's housed in my basement. It's getting really cold out (well below freezing) and my parents finally agreed to let me bring him in. I'm going to see what I can do about getting him neutered (he's not), and he'll need to be FeLeuk and FIV tested before I can bring him upstairs. He seems wormy too, so he'll need that done. Luckily I work in an animal shelter, so I get free medical advice lol
He's pretty freaked out at being inside, and all the little noises scare him, but he's already making progress. I just sat with him for about an hour, and as long as he was touching me, he didn't act scared. He follows me around like a dog. He'll probably go back to hiding now that I'm upstairs, but I'm hoping that having the house quiet all night will help him settle in a little. Now here's to hoping my parents will let me keep him. I do make enough to pay the vet bills, but we've already got three cats in the house and I don't make enough to move out lol
Oh! He's an orange tabby with big round eyes. He looks just like this: http://www.xecode.com/contents/wallpaper/puss_in_boots.jpg Real photos coming once he's more comfortable. |

awww.....I had that happen with a stray dog one time and a couple wild rabbits.
How old do you think he is roughly? Is he only friendly with you or with all your family? |

I have three other cats and two dogs, among other assorted small things in tanks/cages. I still have some convincing to do if I want to keep him for good, but things that come in rarely leave. And he's got to be healthy of course before we let the other cats adjust to him. Once he's tested and neutered, he can go into the spare room until it doesn't seem like the girls want to eat him anymore. Rayven was the first of the three cats, and she's the most territorial. We haven't tried to introduce a male yet though, so that might go a little better.
He seems young. I didn't want to spook him, so I haven't gotten a very good look at his teeth yet, but his colour is still bright orange and aside from the worms he seems in decent body condition. He looks A LOT like the first cat I ever convinced my parents to take in. I was in first grade, and we had Taffy all the way until my freshman year of college. He survived being hit by a car, shot with a bb gun, getting locked in a garage for a week, and skin cancer to die of kidney failure at 17-ish. I really miss him, so having this guy around is good therapy Right now, he just likes me, but my mom has pet him a few times. |

We want pictures as soon as you can get them.
I've had Mi-Lin since September and she's still a bit jumpy over some things, though she's never flinched at the dog's sudden barking. She even sat in the room today while an electric drill was going, eyed it up but didn't freak..and before now she would have.
Good luck with your boy. I'll keep my fingers crossed he's found his home.
Mi-Lin has her forever home. |

Oooh. Good luck with the kitty Khol. Sounds like she's making good progress
My mom rescued a little kitten in a trailor, the load fell over and crushed the other kittens, she was the only survivor. But we nursed her back to health and she was adopted |

Lol I did the same thing with three local cats who are now a part of the family X3
And my friends here in town just ended up taking in two stray pibbles (pit bulls) who look pretty old, maybe around 11-14 years. We suspect someone just dropped them >.> Uhg. Sweethearts as pits usually are though!
Good luck with your meowfacemeowcat! |

Chances are that the cat was owned by someone before and was used to human contact but somehow got out and went wild. Being outdoors was probably a scary experience for him and I bet that humans probably weren't to nice to him and he learned to fear humans but since you've been taking care of him, he's learning to trust humans again. If he were born wild I doubt that you would have gotten anywhere near him. The last placed I stayed at had a cat like that. He kept showing up and they brought him indoors and got him neutered and cleaned up and healthy again and he was starting to trust people again but one day we had all the cats outside in a fenced in yard, enjoying a beautiful summer day and a train went by which spooked him and over the fence he went. We saw him a couple of times after that but he wouldn't let us get near him. He must have preferred being outdoors to being inside. |

Oh he's definitely not feral. I've got a lot of experience with feral cats. Someone owned him at some point, but he was pretty terrified of people when he first started coming around. He's got a vet appointment for next week to test for FIV and FeLeuk, get his vaccinations, and get a stronger wormer than he's gotten already. After that, he can have free-roam of the basement until he's neutered. Once that's done, he can come upstairs, and we'll start the long process of getting the other three cats to accept him. His tentative name is Mango, but I'm not sure we're going to keep that. All of our cats are named for their colour (Shadow, Rayven, Ninja, etc), so he needs to be named for something orange. I don't want it to be a very common name though, so no Pumpkin or Ginger or Rusty or anything like that. Pictures coming soon (I hope). |

Aw I'm so happy for you Kholran! That's how I got two of my cats! Moon and Midnight were born in our garage by a stray cat. Their mother was completely feral and I never got to pet her. Moon was the first one that I got to pet. She let me pet her after five months. Midnight took a little bit longer. It was five months before she let me pet her and then she hissed at me. Moon trembled the first time I touched her but the next day she was rubbing against my legs and purring. Again good luck with your kitty! I know what it feels like to sit in the cold and talk calmly while you tempt them with tuna or cat food! |
