I take alot of pictures, figured i've give into the temptations of trying them out here.
http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs44/f/2009/066/2/e/2e59799a39d035ce6fc02fbf621ed73a.png
- It's uploaded in exactly the same dimensions
- It's a photo taken about 3 months ago of three of my pet rats. From left to right : Gary, Velvet, and Cinnamon. I was cleaning their cages, and they huddled together and i just had to take a picture.. used vista to make it grayscale
- No title
- No real pourpose, just fun.
- Uhh, cute rats sleeping together looking adorable?
- Bored cleaning cages. Seen cute rats. Had camera.
- Hmm, dedivated to velvet, because he's old now and loosing hair.
- Uhh, it's really blurry and gary didn't pose right? I guess it shows his nature, though. He's not a kissy rat like the others are. Only if you have tasty stuff on your hands will he kiss you. Velvet, on the other hand, will go berserk and scartch you up trying to groom you. And he looks the cutest!

-Same dimension as original photo. Dunno, look at it? I don't count pixels.
- it's a photo. it's kind of a cute stroy. All the rats were sleeping, and i was trying to take a picture of cinnamon sleeping, but he woke up while the camera was processing, which it does for FOREVER, and it happened to shutter in mid-yawn. Gary looks so odd in the background.
- Bite yer head!
- No pourpose. Fun, again.
- CUTENESS.
- CUTENESS~ again.
- none really. The focus is perfectly focused on his nosed and mouth.
- This was taken a long long time ago...

-Same as before
- Picture. I took it with macro.
- Little brother
- This picture means alot ot me. A month or two ago, our rat, carrot, had to be put down after fighting a really terrible battle with cancer of some sort. After we got back from the doctors office with her, i looked in her cage, and noticed that during our trip, some seeds had sprouted in her cage. They weren't there before we left. I replanted them in a big pot we have, and all the other seeds that were in her cage, hoping the rest would sprout. Sure enough, they did. These are two of them.
- I thought it was amazing that these plants had started to grow in her cage, so i took many pictures of them
I would enter more but i'm clogging up space. |

That's some lovely photography. I like the use of close-ups and focus, and the black-and-white nature of the first one is very effective.
Have you done anything in the way of a course in photography? If so I'll go into a lot more detail about why these images just worked from an artistic point of view, but if not you'll probably just go "err... what?" so otherwise I'll just summarise it all to say: they're nice, I liked them a lot, and they looked quite professional.
Keep up the good work. |

Thank you!! <33
I've taken alot of different pictures. Particularly trees and some sunsets, but mostly a few plants, tree bark/tree trunks/tree odditys, my rats being adorable, and anything else intresting.
And, i've sort of thought myself how to take pictures that way - I have alot of better pictures detail wise, but those are my favorite overall. Never taken courses, so i'll probably go 'erwhat?' as you said. XD Try me, though, if you really want to.
And, i like taking pictures of small intresting things the best.. |

You clearly have a good instinct for this sort of thing if you've never taken a course. A lot of this sort of art is often going with whatever 'feels right' so a course is not necessary to do well in this field, although it can provide inspiration sometimes.
Essentially the first image showed a good use of composition, texture and contrast, which is why it worked so well in black and white.
In the second, the vast difference in focus between the foreground and background is a common and very effective technique employed by many professional photographers and you used it to great effect here. The crispness of the whiskers is very effective, and the blurry colourful background really helps to highlight the white rat, which is an excellent use of colour. The play of light in the image is also very effective, and again highlights the rat. The composition is also good, with the rat to the far right.
Finally, I found the third image really worked because of its contrasting colours, crisp focus and content matter. Really quite special. Probably my favourite of the three. I'd be really interested in some more of your nature photos. I'll be happy to leave this contest open a little longer if you intend on submitting some more photos. |

I guess i could submit a few more....but give others a chance, too!

It's a picture of Gary's (the white rat's) fur and some plant paraphenelia. if that's what you call 'random stuff'..

And, berry on a tree expedition. He's about a little less than two months old.
I'm intrested in seeing other people's entires! Rusty's horse statues are my favorites. If the contest is open for longer, i really hope someone else enters it.. I don't want to be the last one.
Unfortuantely i don't take much nature photography. All the plants have been dead since i got a knack for this, but recently the came back to life... |

Wow, I really like those two.
I really liked the use of colour in them both.
My only criticism is that I think the first one would benefit from being cropped, perhaps cut off the bottom half or slightly more. From a composition point of view this is a significant improvement. I still liked it anyway, but if you were intending on entering it in an actual photography competition, ie: one with real money prizes, not one on a game forum, (which I think you should, by the way) I would recommend you crop it in that manner.
Thanks for both of those. |

I offer my most sincere congratulations to those who placed. These entries were truly deserving of the prizes they received and I really loved them. Again, congratulations. |

So wait, why did neverwinterCC win five times? Isn't that a little unfair? Meh, manipulations are not appreciated here at all clearly. |

I don't know why i did. It's unfair to them, you're right. They put so much more effort into making those, it's really easy to tell. Taking photos is easy. They should have, at least, gotten runner-ups. It's takes alot of skill to draw and paint, only good judgement to take pictures. They deserve recognition alot more than I do.
Misty glen, i appreciate being placed where i am and getting a nice prize for it alot, but what about them? What do they get? |
