Castaways of the Flying Dutchman and the follow up The Angels Command by Brian Jauques, who writes the Redwall series are good. His short stories collections are nice for a quick read too.
If you handled Harry Potter length books then you might try some of the Dragonlance series. I'd suggest starting with Dragons of an Autumn Twilight as it has most of the core characters and creatures that appear in the Dragonlance universe.
And if you like cats that act almost human like in warriors you might like Tailchaser's Song by Tad Williams. His series Memory Sorrow and Thorn that starts with The Dragonbone Chair is a great high fantasy set and, while it might be too much for you his Otherland series is one of the better scifi works I've read.
Don't know if it's been mentioned but Bruce Coville's Song of the Wanderer, part of the Unicorn Chronicles is another good one.
These might be a little harder to find but are something short and sweet with some pirates mixed in. Iain Lawrence's High Seas trilogy that includes The Wreckers, The Buccaneers, and The Smugglers.
Last one for now, if you haven't read Peter and the Starchasers yet I'd suggest it. |
