Over all, I like Dogs better, Why you ask?
Dogs are more dependable-they'll come when you call them by their name
Dogs do not hide under couches and refuse to come out
Dogs do not make Messes, that are hard to find
Dogs go outside, not in a stinky, mesy litter box
Dogs are seemingly better with kids (from my own experience they are)
Dogs do not try to get out of the house for the heck of it
I'll stop XD These are mainly points, and my thoughts. |

Cats can be trained just as well as dogs. Some of our long-term shelter cats can sit, come, stay, lay down, roll over....same technique as any dog
Dogs do not hide under couches and refuse to come out
Ever had an abused dog? I can introduce you to some that would do just that in a home environment.
Dogs do not make Messes, that are hard to find
Same goes for this one...dogs that were 'housebroken' by being hit, yelled at, having their noses rubbed in the mess...they learn that going potty in front of humans gets them punished, and they'll go behind the couch, under the bed, wherever their owner isn't looking.
Dogs go outside, not in a stinky, mesy litter box
Puppies, anyone? I've yet to meet a 3 month old pup that's housebroken. Besides that, I have three cats. There is absolutely no smell from the litterbox. It all depends on how dedicated the owner is at keeping clean.
Dogs are seemingly better with kids (from my own experience they are)
This very much depends on the dog. We've had some come through the shelter that wouldn't hesitate to attack a small child.
Dogs do not try to get out of the house for the heck of it
LOL Oh yes they do. Usually this is a problem with skittish or shy dogs, but there are some who just love to run, and will take any opportunity to run out the door.
I have both dogs and cats. I work with both dogs and cats. I love both my dogs and my cats. There is no "better" or "worse" species. It all depends on personal preference and the animals you've been exposed to. If you were mauled by a golden retriever as a kid, chances are you'd prefer cats. On the other hand, if you had a spastic, angry cat as a child, you'd probably pick dogs. I choose to have both, as they've each got their good points.
*My cats are more independent and easier to train/trust. If I go on vacation, the cats aren't going to need crated, kenneled, etc to ensure they don't destroy the house.
*All a cat needs when it's introduced to a home is a litterbox, food bowl, water dish, and a few balls of wadded up paper.
*Kittens don't need to be housebroken.
*Kittens don't need obedience classes.
*Two cats playing rough is generally less destructive than two dogs playing rough.
*Dogs generally do better outside of the home; at the park, in the car, etc.
*They make better running partners too.
*They act happier to see you when you've been gone all day.
*Dogs don't need scratching posts. |

I agree with Kholran! I love cats, and dogs always were too... slobbery and stuff for me. Also, cats are smart enough to take care of their buissiness without me! All I have to do is let the electronic litter box do it. =) |

I have to disagree with these two points lol I've owned some very wierd animals. My dog didn't act happy to see me when I came home so much, but then she was almost constantly with me when I left, so didnt get to miss me lol but the other dogs.. eh they would greet me, and slather me with wet doggy kisses, but I've had cats that go completely nuts when I leave, and the cat we have now, she is ALWAYS right there at the door to greet me when I come in, meowing at me, and licking at my hand and arm as I pass through the doorway, then follows me around the house till I get a chance to pet and cuddle her hello lol
I didn't used to be a big cat person. I didn't dislike them or anything, I just preferred dogs. But, I have touble sleeping alone, always have, a teddy bear, or even a life sized doll didn't work, I couldn't feel body heat, and I couldn't hear the heart beating etc. I couldn't sleep. Rather then crawling in bed with my mom looking for osmeone to cuddle so I could sleep after I was way to old for such behavior, I took to sleeping with a dog. Most of the cats we have had, were more then willing to sleep with me, but not cuddled up in a hug under a cover, they prefer laying on my feet, or balancing on my hip. Or curling on the pillow beside my face.. lol Only ever had one cat that would let me cuddle it under covers while I slept. I miss him
The other reaosn I prefered dogs is, I liked to play rough, and I tended to hurt the smaller aniamls, wether it was a ct, or a smaller sized dog. So I just tended to stick to larger sized animals.. which meant large sized dogs.
I like both cats and dogs though, both are great companions, I just wish I was allowed more then one pet here, I do miss having a dog around, as much as I love silky |

Kholran is absolutley right. More so I think on the dogs getting out of the house. You have no idea how many stray dogs we have at the sanctuary. Only to be picked up the next day (luckily) by worried owners saying the dog ran through their legs.
I personally cannot pick one or the other. Although depending on my own circumstances would determine weather to have a dog or cat.
I own 4 dogs and 2 cats (along with 4 ferrets) at the moment. All rescued but one |
