I've ridden pretty much everything (Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Western Equitation, English Equitation, Saddleseat, Park, Trail, Dressage, Jumping, Team Penning, Barrels and other gaming events, Cutting, Reining.. the list oges on and on) and I prefer Western Pleasure to it. I do cross train all horses that I train so that they can do pretty much anything to the best of their abilities. But, I think many horses have a harder time combining Dressage and WP to move collected, slow and relaxed, then to move for otehr diciplines. Although some do have a harder time moving up for Saddleseat, it depends on their natural knee and hock range of movement. But, for the most part, every horse I've trained has a harder time moving in a slow collected WP frame then moving saddleseat, dressage, EP, etc. I feel once a horse can move slow, focused, collected, responsive and quiet, they can fairly easily do anything.
So yeah, Western Pleasure, with Dressage techniques. |
