Im with Frosty on this one. Although I'm not completely against stem cell research (I'm still on the fence about it), I would much rather see gene enhancement then stem cell research.

Recently they have found stem cells in amniotic fluid, so they no longer need to use a fetus. I just havent made up my mind on the subject yet. It has its pros and cons, and until I am thoroughly convinced either way, I stay completely neutral on the subject.

As for the four legged chicken, it probably has a twin inside it. Yes inside it. When an egg begins to split to make twins, sometimes it doesnt split all the way. Resulting in conjoined (siamese) twins.

Other times there are two seperte eggs and one completely engulfs the other egg. This results in the outer twin developing normally and the inner twin developing to a cretain stage, and then its becomes a parasite living off the developed twins body. That is why some people are born with extra limbs. It is simply the developed portion of the internal twin.

Another intersting genetic anomoly(sp) is chimerism. Where one body has multiple sets of dna.

I don't have the qualms that some people do about something being unnatural, cause I'm atheist. For me, it's just a question of is the animal being hurt or not.

I've heard about chimeras...I think they made a mouse one a while ago...it was pretty normal I think

Oh and about the chicken w/ the twin--but does the other side function? It looks like it has half a twin... Confused

In my opinion, I think it is really cool that is has four legs. But, if it was done on purpose, that is just plain cruel. Yet, because it was born with the defect, I think its rather fastinating!

If the chicken with the four legs was infact one chicken with a twin inside, then no the other twin would not function. The inside twin would grow to a certain stage n development and stop growing because there is enough room, nutrition, etc.

With a chimera you wouldnt notice a physical deformaty or anything like that. The outside is normal, its the inside where all the intersting stuff happens. One kidney could have a totally different gentic make up then the other kidney. the heart could have completely different DNA then the brain. Most chimeras go through life not even knowing they are one.

Legendary did you see the "House" episode with the girl that couldnt feel pain?

She was constantly checking everything because she had no nerve sences. She couldnt feel temperature, or when her bladder is full or anything. It was awesome to see, but I would hate to have it.

OMG! My friend's chick had 3 legs. It was gross in a way and yet so sad. The chick died because it couldn't go.... (you know, I know, we all know, but I don't know how to say it) Confused

As far as I know that picture is unaltered. Thats why it was posted. Because it is just so abnormal. It took me a few times to understand what I was looking at.

NOW THAT IS JUST WRONG! people shoudnt mess with nature that way! its like when people bred a lion and a tiger togther! or testing with animals for shampoo, makeup, and new types of drugs. there was also a scientist who pitted monkeys against there babies and made them kill their babies with stones. JUST WRONG!
