How do YOU name your animals?

Ok so I was wondering when I was wandering around SBF... How do YOU come up with your animals names??? Post here how you name them!


I name mine by songs, books, the animals 'older' family, T.V. shows and movies, sometimes names just pop into my mind, and then of course there is you guys and your ideas for names ..


How do the rest of you come up with names!?!?

I use various methods to come up with names. One of my favorites is combining the parents names, but that only works if the parents have cool names.

I like to give my animals names that are words or phrases I like: Abyss, Cinnamon Sugar, Governor. I also like naming them after stuff like gems and flowers.

When all else fails, I can always come up with a nonsense name of some sort. I can do that pretty easily. My brother once said that if he ever needs a random name generator, he'll just use my head.

Just to brag, I'm gonna come up with a few right now:

Kadiya
Furvere
Cyana
Lokusa
Myak
Wanymar
Tolzor
Dayvadel

I could do this all day.

If I'm feeling traditional lol, I'll name them according to what they are, e.g naming a Swedish WB in...Well, Swedish lol.

Sometimes I'll mish-mash parental names, e.g Daylight Star and Moonlight Whimsy might end up with a baby named Wishing In The Dark, etc...

If I'm enjoying a song, tv show, movie etc...That gets in too. I have alot named after Johnny Cash songs lol...

If I'm in a hurry...I'll name it whatever pops into my head. I now have a chinchilla named Something because of that

If I'm being really, really lazy....They just get allocated a number

Sippy - I want your head! When I write I am infamous for writing entire 30,000 word stories about "A" and "B" because I hate coming up with character names! LOL.

But for animals... guess I'm pretty traditional. I use the parents names, I do a lot of song titles, I do like to look up like Russian names for animals/variations with Russian origins etc. I use phrases I like or things I've read or heard. I like to play on words, too. I do the "Prince thing" as I think of it - you know - "Likely 2B Good" - which Prince does on a lot of his song titles and stuff. Because I have so many of certain things I sometimes name all of a particular males babies with a certain word - like JLR Old Tom, all his daughters are "Old" something so I can distinguish them when I'm doing breedings. Sometimes I use a "theme" for a certain "family" like all of Caramel's daughters had candy names. I do that in RL, too. Back when I had a lot of litters of kittens every year (when I was doing rescue the joke was if you rescue a female cat she IS preggers) every litter would have a theme for the kittens names. Oh, and I use a lot of Cherokee words because my hubby and I are both part Cherokee and we speak just a little of the language. (GoGv is the Cherokee word for crow or raven just in case you wondered why all those corvids have that in their name...) and yeah...sometimes just random stuff floats through my head...

Well, I tend to not name until they've reached no wai in at least one stat and usually, I name by the animal description

Centralia Tan Dragoness is a Tan Central Bearded Dragon

I know, not very imaginative. I suspect as the animals get better, I'll pick better names.
