So it seems that you pay the 1/3 prize when you set up an event, which you pay whether or not the event runs.

If you enter an event that doesn't run, do you still pay the entrance fee?

Yes, the entrance fee is taken as soon as you enter the animal. If the event never runs, it is not returned.

Most people prefer to enter an event the host at least enters because as long as the event has two different players and 4 animals, it can run. As long as the host enters, another player can enter and it's pretty safe the event will run as long as it has enough animals.
