Lol, yes, but then it wouldn't be very exciting, now would it? Continuation of chapter 2:
Luna settled down in her accustomed place underneath a low, rocky overhang. From here she could view everything between herself and the distant mountains. Lobo slipped in, ducking his head as he went, and lay next to Luna. They curled up together, keeping each other warm during the cold autumn night. Lobo remained awake while Luna fell asleep, her breathing slow and relaxed. Eventually Lobo allowed himself to drift off, his head slumped against the cold ground and Luna’s side. It would take only the slightest sound to wake him again, for even in sleep he was alert, as a wild thing must always be. But, thankfully, nothing disturbed the wolves during their sleep.
When Lobo awakened, the ground was covered in frost. Sparkling crystals sprouted from twigs of sage and stems of ryegrass. The air was still, but not too still; Lobo could here the faint sounds of birds. Ravens squawked angrily, probably squabbling over a rare bit of food. Lobo drew in a breath, his leathery nose sifting through the scents.. All was well. Lobo heaved himself up, stepping nimbly around Luna’s warm, sleeping body as he went. He emerged from underneath the overhang and gave himself a shake. Lobo then stretched, arching his back and extending his legs. He moved forward, padding lightly over to a primal lookout position. Lobo first scanned the area, looking for any disturbances, anything that might have changed during the night. Lobo was still wary of the farmer that had caught his pack taking a cow. His trick in the stream should, however, prevent any humans from finding his wolves.
A wisp of bland color, traveling slowly upward, caught Lobo’s eye. His weak gaze soon lost it, however, so he used a more powerful sense of his. He tested the air with his nose. As his mind unraveled the information, various alarms went off in Lobo’s head. His body tensed, his ears flicking backward. Smoke. Just the faintest taint of it carried on the air, but Lobo’s sensitive nose picked up every molecule. But it was queer, for the smoke was not borne from a natural forest fire, which could wreck havoc in the summer months. Lobo’s paws could feel the ground underneath his feet, and it was almost frozen by the cold. It would squelch any flame that touched it. So, what could be the cause of the smoke? There was only one alternative: humans. Lobo growled softly, and the sound woke Luna from her light sleep. The she-wolf yawned and stretched, then padded quietly over to Lobo. She looked out over the land, taking in the treacherous signs that had so troubled her partner. For a few moments the two wolves just stood there, their minds working, calculating, figuring. They read the evidence time and time again, and always the conclusion pointed to humans. It was then that Lobo’s muzzle raised, and his voice cried out to the skies. Luna’s howl joined his, and their ominous song of danger swept over the countryside. As their voices waned and finally dropped, they knew their pack would hear. They met no response, but they expected none. It would do no good for the wolves to give away more information on their locations, information that could put them in danger. (c) to Fire Opal
Now this is where I will stop. Along with the fact that chapter 3 is a work in progress, the following story has a few deaths, and I wouldn't want to be responsible for frightening anybody! But so far, what do you think? I made up this little form you can fill out if you like.
Was the story realistic enough for your liking?
Did you find the characters engaging?
Was the story exciting?
Were you eager to keep reading throughout the story?
Did you like the writing style? |

Yay!! I'm really glad you like it! But I'm afraid I can't give away anything more. I'm still working on it. And like I've stated before, it is kind of violent/dramatic, and I don't want to have to water it down for the general public...
So that's all for now. Thanks for taking the time to read my story! |
