i had cat named tinkerbell around the time i was around 7 years old. she was a black and white cat that was really shy but really nice. i got her from my grandma which she got from someone else who i dnt remeber anymore. When my grandma first opened up her crate so she could get out she ran straight under the first thing she could find. after that we moved around alot but she still lived on but when we finally moved back to the place i was born my mom had to go on deploment to Iraq. So while my mom was in Iraq still something was happening to tinkerbell. One day i noticed their was pee on the floor close to where her liter box was ( her litter box was on a counter) then i told my stepdad about it and he said not to worry aout it so i didnt. but then it she kept peeing on the floor insted of her litter box. Then one day when i was coming home from something i saw her laying on her stomach on the top of the staircase. i looked at real closely and i saw some red string by her mouth which i didnt know what it was. also she was breathing in rasps. then i ran to my stepdad and told him what was wrong with tinkerbell. then we rushed her to the clinic. my stepdad told me to stay in the car with my brothers so i did. then i waited. My stepdad came told me that they will kepp us updated on her. so then we gotr a phone call and as i was listening in i heard they had to put her to sleep which i didnt really know about. then he came to my room and told me that she had to be put to sleep. i cried like crazy. My stepdad told me that when my mom got back we would get another cat.

i still remeber that shy little kitty and know i think that she is with me now watching over me through my cat i have know. R.I.P. tinkerbel i will always mis you very much. Crying or Very sad

What's that got to do with when she's going to 'go'?

I have two stories.
Only sharing one now...
First is about my guinea pig, Ashely. If you don't know, Guinea pigs only live to about... 4 years old.

Ashely: Ashely was a poor little girl. I had bought her from a pet store. The poor thing was very puny and underwieght but I loved her anyway. Unfortunatley, she was white with pink eyes which meant she was blind. I hung around with her for years. I was about the time she was... 3. We had just gotten a dog(still alive and 4years old now!) and Ashely was terrified over so I took very good care of her. One day I was on my way to my grandparents. It was on my moms side so only my mom was going. Me and my sister were in the car when my dad ran out. He pulled my mom aside and started talking to her. I thought something happened to Diamond, my dog. my mom was extra nice to me that day. At night, when we got home, it started to rain. My dad pulled me aside into the garage. he held a shoebox. He opened it and all I saw was puny little Ashely, her little pink eyes were closed. My eyes filled with tears and he explained that she had died earlier that day. I started to cry. He helped me and we buried her, safe and sound, right outside my window where no more harm could come to her. There she lays. RIP: I miss you.

Well Ferox, it's a proven fact that mixie strays live shorter lives than pedigree house cats. Smile

Well i have had quite a few dogs that we had to give away the first was a Beagle named Boe he was a male and not housebroken and messed EVREYWHERE so we gave him to a shelter.

Mt uncle's dog named Serge who was a Rottweiler had to be put to sleep because he had attacked 2 people and was labled visious.

Last we have the most recent which we had a yorkshire terrier Chiwuawua mix named Rusty we also had his mate Chuka Chuka is still here but they were both horribly abused and we never got over it and when he was 10 years old he got a tumer in his mouth and we had to put him down because it smelled like cancer. Then we had to get Sweetie who is Chuka's new friend.

Most cats live up to twenty years. Even strays usually live to be about 15 or so. You should have a few years left. But it's still kind of weird to put an experation date on a living thing. Generally, if the cat has lived a healthy life, it dies of old age at about 17-19. That's just an approximation though. I used to have a kitty named rainbow (only one that's ever died) and she only lived to be about six. My dad thought that she had mange or something deadly like that, and so he took her to the vet. This vet apparently wasn't graduated, or didn't really test her. A few weeks later, she went missing. Apparently she had run off to die. We found her because a stench was around our deck and we were looking for the cause. I moved a shrub out of the way, and there she was. I screamed thoughtlessly. She was dead, and decomposing. The vet had been dead wrong. I believe she was around 6 when she passed. I still remember that day when I found her. It was one of the sadest days ever.

I disagree. Outdoor cats are more likely to have FIV or FeLV which shortens their life spans, but pedigree cats are more likely to have inherited problems that cause them to die young.

It's my experience that indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats, mixes live longer than pedigrees. Comparing an indoor pedigree to an outdoor stray is not a fair comparason.

My family picked up a stray adult felame and kept her for 20 years. I've seen pedigree cats put down at 7 months because of amyloidosis. Your cat isn't going to die just because she's a 13 year old mixed breed.

I had to put my 15 year old black lab/newfoundland down...it'll be a year the week after Christmas. He was starting to lose the ability to use his hind legs and he was going to the bathroom in the house (and he had never done that before) I held his head as they put him down. He was the worlds greatest dog. He was gentle and well behaved. I had owned him from the minute he was born. We owned his mother (a pure blood black lab) she got off her chain one day and came home and had 8 puppies 2 of whom died shortly after birth (she wasn't spayed because we thought we might breed her one day). she rolled over on one of the puppies at night and the other was born with a deformity that didn't allow her to eat.
