Heres a random interesting thing....
( I know links aren't technically allowed but its not for a game or a site like youtube so...I dunno? )
How well can you hear the higher ranges of sound?
Basically the theory goes that the older you get/the more you abuse your ears with things like iPods, heavy machinery, concerts etc etc, the worse your hearing gets...Well, this is true, to a point.
The theory also goes that once you hit 20, hearing starts to decline so I'm wondering what the ears of SBF players are like
This site gives samples of sound ranging from 8kHz ( EVERYONE should be able to hear this! ) to 22.4kHz ( mostly just dogs can hear this! )
http://www.ultrasonic-ringtones.com/
It doesn't cost you anything, and you don't need to download them, simply click the play button to hear the sample...Try them all, and post what you can hear! ( if you are comfortable with other players knowing, post your age range too for comparison! )
I'm curious about my own hearing...I can hear 8 to 16.7kHz fine ( hurts my ears in fact >.< )
17.7, 18.8 and 22.4kHz I hear absolutely nothing....
But I CAN hear 19.9 and 21.1kHz....Which I don't quite understand lol....Can't hear just above or just below, but hear those 2 fine...Strange...
I'm heading towards 26, so I apparently have pretty good hearing for my age...
The two I can't hear bothers me though...I've looked after my ears >.< |

You're lucky Chloe!
But if I remember right you are a teen? Apparently everyone under 20 can hear all of them...
I wish I was young again lol >.< |

The last one apparently has no sound almost, I think my brain is just making it up, I can not hear that one... everyone except that HURT my ears! I am classified as a dog, the second to last one is the last one I hear fine. My own dad says I hear like a dog! |

OMG so do my classmates! In fourth grade, my teacher put me on a stool, facing the blackboard, while my teacher was whispering from the back of the room! I heard perfectly fine. I call myslef a freak, it's odd.... |

As well as me, I recall my dad whispering to my mom a few rooms away and they were talking about me... I said "What?" |

Hmm, I can hear up to the 16.7 with headphones, but once I pulled them and used the computer speakers I could hear up to 17.7. With the headphones I could feel that there was a sound at 17.7, if that makes any sense, but couldn't hear it clearly. |

I could hear them all except the very last one, and I'm in my early 20s. Pretty good for my age.
The reason I didn't hear the last one was because my computer wasn't outputting any sound (I have a program I can use to check). I thought my speakers were just dodgy and couldn't create a pitch that high, but it turns out the last one doesn't actually have any sound in it. If you click on it and go to results instead of saying you're a dog or something, it says you're a liar, lol.
A friend of mine uses this sort of thing for a prank. He's unable to hear the very high pitched noises, but knows that several of his friends can. So at random times when we're all working quietly in the same room, he'll play these pitches at high volume. You can tell which ones have the good hearing because they'll clap their hands over their ears and groan. Then try to kill him, lol. |
