I love to meet others who have bunnies or raise them!

I currently raise the following breeds: French Angoras, Jersey Woolies & Lionheads. My mom raises English Angoras & my younger brother has Netherland Dwarves.

I have about 25 bunnies at the moment aswell as 6 guinea pigs! (My one sow is due to have babies any day).

I also have some pet bunnies, a Flemish Giant, A French Lop & a NZL/Flemmie mix!

So do you have bunnies xD Please post pics if so Very Happy

Here is a pic of my fav bunny when she was 8 weeks. She is now 12 weeks and weighs 9 pounds already Very Happy She is going to be in the 25+ range when she is fully grown. -huggles Nova-

Yeah, I have bunnies, and occasionally they were bred but the babies usually died either from neglect, or it was too cold, or when the mommies were succesful there would be a rabbit eating coon around. Sad we started out with about seven bunnies, and now we have two females. (I didn't breed either of them, but I think that one could be pregnant because she got out the other day and there are plenty of willing wild rabbits)

Rose that is NOT responsible pet ownership!

Maybe rethink the whole rabbits as pets thing if you can't look after them.

Don't you know if/when she is in season?, and maybe get her to the vet if you suspect pregnancy.

And if it's so cold where you are that they are dying, bring them inside. Rolling Eyes

I agree with Cosmo....I know a lot of people who breed animals and don't lose whole litters to cold or predators or anything else

My parents don't allow them inside and we get really cold winters here. We put alot of straw in there cages to burrow in but it still doesn't work occasionally. Crying or Very sad did you ever think that it's not the owners fault? that it was the owners parents? and besides that my older sister owned all of the deceased rabbits. Not me, mine are the only ones left. I clean their cages regularly, feed and water them daily as well. We now have a big enclosed cage for all of the cages to prevent the coons from getting the rabbits. The coon that ate almost half or more of our stalk (my sisters bunnies) was BIGGER THAN A CAT so my cat couldn't do anything about it. The racoon was about 2 and 1/2feet tall, and 6 inchs wide. give or take a few inches. (the sister whose rabbits died is older, and doesn't play on here) I said the coon was because he is no longer living, he was shot by my father becausehe kept on killing our rabbits (one of our rabbits died of old age.

Rose, I hope you understand that I'm not trying to be mean in this.

I feel that Cos is right - and she was completely right in voicing her view. I know that owning animals is really fun at time, but as you know, it's also a lot of responsibility. If this responsibility cannot be provided for the LIVING animals, then they shouldn't be with you. Your parents shouldn't have let you get animals if they themselves aren't able to handle any responsiblity - such as letting them inside, or buying seperate cages so they didn't have babies.

Kayla

I think the word is stock, not stalk.

I wasn't accusing, I was stating a fact. People who breed animals so irresponsibly that they lose entire litters are doing something wrong. What's the matter with spaying them? It is completely wrong to allow them to keep getting pregnant. Like Liz said, I know a lot of people who breed animals, hell I bred rats for 7 years, and losing litters that way in this day and age is unacceptable.

The fact remains, and anyone who had a clue about any animals would see that.

I wasn't mean, just to the point. I thought we were all here because we loved animals, and neglect like that can't be expected to go unchallenged. Not on this site, and certainly not by me.

While I'm here I could point out how a humane trap may have been kinder for the raccoon, and shooting seems to be some peoples answer to everything, but since I've been shot down for my views on responsible breeding we won't go there.

Basically you guys are putting on an all you can eat buffet for the local raccoons, and the ones who don't die of that may die of the cold anyway.

And don't get me started on cold winters....I'm from Scotland.

What more info does Cos need? Animals that are supposed to be domesticated shouldn't be dying of predation.

We do have seperate cages, you know like the dividers, but bunnies have REALLY strong teeth, and they cut open the wire mesh dividing them, and we didn't know about it for a few days, and that was all that the male needed. Besides that, we occasionally breed our show rabbit. One of them was BEST IN SHOW. Smile

I Really hope I'm not rude here ~Rose~, Could you at Least talk to your parents into taking them inside? And if you lose whole litters, there Must be a problem. As Cos stated before, Could you spay them so you wouldn't at least have the baby problem? And cold winters are just are a harsh for a rabbit, you really might want to bring them in then, even with some straw, just in case. Sorry if I'm overly stating or just being plain rude!
