Isin't it interesting how our genetic backgrounds influence our way of speaking more than our actual location?
Granted, for an immigrant thats to be expected, but for people born in one country but sound like another....I just like how that happens lol...
We're all very culturally diverse, which again is quite neat....Alot of people have no idea of their backgrounds
I'm Scottish/Irish on my Mothers side, and a blend of Polish, Maori, Irish and some disputed Chinese on my fathers...
Just a bitzah
Most Kiwis actually are so thats probably why we have such a mild accent... |

I guess I'll represent the redneck accent. Like the, "Yeh mehbe tard, but yeh bedder warsh yer face afor yeh geh ta bed." kind of rednecks. No one in my home town says the G's on the end of words so things like jumping become jumpin'. My grandpa is the only person I know that can make elm into two syllables, el-um, and my youngest brother use to call Virginia Ver-g-in-ee-ah until we realized what he was trying to say and started correcting him. Both my youngest brother and me sound like the biggest pair of hicks when we get tired and start slurring more than normal.
Any time I talk with someone out of state they end up asking me where I'm from and then get this knowing look when I tell them like that explains everything. They must think I have a cement pond back home and am about to be shipped off to the old maids home in disgrace or something, lol. |

I hate the 'label' that Australia gets with accents. The people who say 'Crikey', 'Bonza' and 'Up the creek' are either dead or in the centre of Australia in their own fantasy world.
Yes, we do say G'day and mate, but then we are as feral in our bad language as any other country. And no, Australia is not a large plain either, that's just the centre (Alice Springs) and some of WA. I like in the south and most of the stuff you find here is small town, some massive cities, a lot of green outback and lot's of rain. Up North there's rain forests and reefs and cool stuff galore.
Yes I am Australian
Yes I have a British accent |

Haha, I'm a Kiwi Chocs, and I frequently say "Crikey!"
Its a little off topic but not completely so.....What weird words are used in everyones neck of the woods?
Scots saying fag instead of cigarette, for example lol.....
I love the American words for our boring sounding things...Soft drinks become soda...biscuits become cookies....lollies become candy.... |

We really do say "Och aye"
We say wean for child, or bairn.
A motor is any car.
We say tea for dinner, so I would say "Vitani, what are you having for your tea tonight" Well it sounds like "Vitani wit ar ye havin fur yer tea the night.." Lol
We say gimme a shot, for it's my turn.
Cludgy is the toilet.
I'll be back when I think of more....
This is fun. |
