Cat Troubles

My cat Mittens wont eat. We give her some chicken and tuna but she only nibbles a little. Right now we are trying a kitten formula through a syringe. Has anyone tried this? She is only a year old. She also has trouble controlling her bladder, she pees everywhere. We took her to the vet and they said she has a liver problem. They gave us some clavamox to give her.

Isnt Clavamox an antibiotic? what kind of "liver problem" did they say she had?

If its commercial canned (people) tuna or chicken it can be high in sodium

I would make sure she stays hydrated-will she drink chicken broth or chicken broth diluted with unflavored pedialyte?

will she eat raw food? I know the vets want to sell you the hideosly expensive canned crap, but if you can find some ground WHOLE rabbit (online or some pet stores - no veggies, just meat)

I never had even a very sick cat turn down rabbit . When Simba was injured and even the vet didnt think he would live i made a slurry of ground rabbit and used a syringe to put it in his mouth a little at a time

The vets havnt diognosed her. They just said she doesnt have lukemia or some other liver problem(if forgot what it was called) THey said to give her anything she will eat. Clavamox is a antibiotic

When I did a week at a cat clinic (I'm a trainee vet) I found that some cats wont eat anytihng unless you lavish attention and grooming upon them for ages. You can offer them everything and anything in small amounts on seperate plates - too much looks daunting and they give up. You can try their normal food, intestinal diets ar pieces of raw red meat cut up into small chunks (No raw chicken please).

Pancreatitis and triaditis is a common cause of cats being 'not quite right' and not eating. I can't really comment on what your cat has because I don't know hte diagnosis or how it was reached, but attention really does seem to make some fussy cats eat.

as much as I love my rabbits, they are raised primarily for meat

We got started when I had a German Shepherd pup diagnosed with TWO separate, serious, heart defects. In researching the best diet for her i found rabbit (incredibly nutritious and easy to digest) and raw feeding

and yes, cats are winners in the "picky eaters" contest. unlike most animlas (if they refuse food you let them get good & hungry, eventually they eat) you cant do it with cats- they will starve, and make themselves sicker

Koneko, have you tried letting Mittens lick food off your fingers? or letting her eat off your plate? Ive had ailing cats who would raw or soft scrambled eggs, also try baby food- meat dinners

When walker (my mini dachshound) got valley fever the first time and wouldn't eat he loved baby food, eggs, and bacon. also maybe get some cat "gravy" pour it on her food and see if she'll eat it. (that worked for walker. my uncle sent us free supplies bcuz he knows who invented it)

Update: She was in too much pain and was suffering. We had to put her down

My mom was the most sad, she had a bond with her. I was hoping she would live to at least 10, she has always been very sickly. SHe was only a year old

Awww, that's soo sad. I have a cat and she's older than my little sister, was born on my sister's birthday and everything. It would kill me if she were to die. (just a figure of speech) right now she is nursing her babies and purring loud enough to make an earthquake. lol. I hope your family feels better. Are you considering getting another cat? Most times it helps to have a pet in a time of crisus. My cat's momma died of mange. She had been missing for a few days after acting weird. There was a really bad stench by our deck. We kept on searching for the cause of the stench. I was told to look near the bushes...there she was. Dead. Her corpse decomposing. I screamed as loud as I could. The veternarians said that she didn't have mange while she was alive, but that's what she died of. I will miss you forever Rainbow. *Starts crying uncontrollubly*

Koneko, Im so sorry. Sometimes letting them go is the best gift we can give them, but it is so hard
