Bezzella, I think 99 out of a hundred cats will not have a problem. them there's the hundredth

my parents use to rag on me for what i spent on my animals, and there are people with happy, healthy cats eating, well, whatever

Its like, we know cats can get hairballs, so we brush them and keep a little malted hairball medicine around. They may never get a hairball, but surgery to remove an impaction is expensive, and any surgery is hazardous

I love my cats, some of them even tolerate me. Not everyone will raise them the way I do. Thats the great thing, we can all make our choices as to how we raise our animals (so far)

the Manx is "helping" me type, the runt kitten is about to launch himself towards me. got to go, Frodo is washing my chin

I have to disagree with Bezzella only on the point that they don't need wet food. A dry food only diet can cause crystals in their urine and it is painful from what I have heard. They need the wet food to prevent that from happening. If you don't feed wet food then make sure they are drinking plenty of water, my female likes to drink it right out of the bathtub faucet and will follow me in there every time I go into the bathroom. I feed mine half a pouch each in the mornings and then they get a handful of dry food for lunch and another handful for dinner. I buy a 16lb bag of Nutro and it lasts 2-3 months and that's with two cats.
My cat Neko is getting treated for crystals. Now he has to have a prescirption wet food for his whole life. And his sister Mittens had a liver problem the day before

Congrats on the kitties! I second the request for piccies...All pets are adorable but fuzzy wee babies even more so Very Happy

Feeding pretty much comes down to personal preferance - That is, the cats preferance, not yours! Its a falicy that if a cat doesn't like whats put in front of it it will "eat it when it gets hungry enough"...Cats will find an alternate food source and you definately don't want them scrounging in the rubbish or pestering the neighbours. Invest in a kitten formula, they do need to eat more than adults to fuel the growth so its not unreasonable to see 3 cups between 2 kittens vanish after a day...Just remember to slow it down as they mature...Obesity in animals can have all the problems and more of obesity in humans. Depending on breed and activity, weight will be a good indicator, ask your vet and weigh them every so often...Dramatic increase or loss is a warning signal....

Oh listen to me rabbiting on >.< Sorry Embarassed

Everyones advice has been pretty bang on, and remember never be afraid to ask for help...Only stupid question is the one you don't ask Wink

Thanx guys! and my dad thinks wet food is for spoiled cats lol he thinks same with dogs too, and of corse its his money so wet food won't fly very far. lol, but i bought some cat litter, i forget wat its called. but it isnt a very common brand. and i got two toys yesterday, 1 a ball with a little mouse with a bell on it, and 2 a little easter egg thing, dont' worry its made out of fabric and cotton so no little pieces. Pictures will come as soon as possible! and I told my dad about the problems with meow mix and he said well its cheaper and they are used to it so we have to feed em it. If we change tho, Im definitly going to use purina or nutro. If any1 says Iams is good, im sorry but im gonna explode on ya, you will read sooo many bad things about iams from me. lol so if yar thinkin iams then NOOOOOOO! lol srry. my dogs used to eat iams and herschel was allergic to like everything in it! and walker gained liver and kidney problems soon after he started eating iams. so it outta the picture. But PETCO has a whole isle of Iams, its soooooooooooooooooo sad. My whole family has gained a liking to my little kittens! even my cat hater mom!

That's so cool that your mom has taken a liking to them but then again, who can resist a baby cat? Smile

You can get away with not feeding them wet food if they drink enough water, the reason wet food is recommended is because a lot of cats don't drink enough water and the moist food helps them get the water they need. My cats don't drink enough, especially my male, that is why I feed them wet food in the mornings, like I said before my female likes to drink water from the bathtub faucet. I make sure that every time she is in there with me that I turn on the water so a little is coming out and then she gets her drink and I turn it off.

One last thing, Declawing...

This is a personal choice, but my cat has never been declawed. Some prefer this but I think of it as something that is unnecessary for a trained cat. My cat doesn't scratch furniture or people becuase we have trained her. However, if your cat does seem to need declawing, you may want to. Keep in mind that it is INCREDIBLY painful for your cat and will hamper their movement. It is similar to removing half of all of your fingers. The cat will not be able to jump as well and may slip easier. I find it repulsive and lazy to do but if you feel the need it can and will work. Don't do it yourself and make sure the vet does it!

We had one of my cats recently declawed. We tried every recommendation we could find to stop her from shredding our couch, like getting scratching posts, spray from the pet store, and even rubbing orange peels on the sofa(heard somewhere that cats dont like oranges.) but she kept scratching! She doesn't scratch people, just furniture. Luckily my parents didn't declaw the other cat, tooXD But she was lazy before we declawed her(she HATES going outside), and since she got back she has been running around, wrestling, and jumping just fine. We got the claws, just the front ones, removed with laser treatment, so hopefully it didn't hurt her too much:[ I don't like declawing at all, but since our cat is a total indoor cat, it didn't worry us too much. It's just so darn hard to get unbiased information on declawing!
So whatever, hate me if you want, because yes, I declawed one of my cats.

Since your cats are probably going to be outdoor cats, declawing is out of the question anyways. So I wouldn't really worry about it. As far as feeding goes, I give my two one-year-old cats a little less than 2 cups of food a day. However, it usually does not get completely eaten. If you use a plastic bowl, your cats can actually get acne! A good way to stop this would be switching to a bowl made of a different material. But this hasn't happened to us, not with our previous cat or our two current ones. For toys, my cats LOVE little mice that rattle and carry them everywhere. They even drop them in their water bowlXD Another awesome thing is a stick with a feather attatched to it on a string. My cat will do backflips for that toy!

On a kind of unrelated note, every time I let my cat run around outside, she gets dive-bombed by crows! It's gotten so bad that I have to stay out there with her. She even got pooped on onceXD And the other day she caught a baby rabbit. It's alive, but it freaked us out to look outside and see her holding a squealing baby bunny.

And if your cats bother you during the night, locking them out doesn't always work! Mine will sometimes sit outside my door and meow ALL NIGHT LONG. It doesn't just keep me up, it keeps my whole family up! Hopefully your cats don't do thisXD Good luck!

Thanx! and yeah declawing is definitly out of the picture. I can see declawing an inside cat, even though its totally mean (not if u have to like in ur case i don't blame u i kinda agree with you there i mean wat are u gonna do? get rid of it? wrong, we have never gotten rid of an animal and never will (exept for baby goats bcuz u kinda have to, but i mean like pets that you bought) so your choice was appropriate)

Idk if i already told you this, but i got em an easter egg that is all fuzzy and a metal ball with a fuzzy mouse with a bell on its "butt" inside it. lol Garfeild LOVES the ball. Toby likes to run, also he likes to scratch, Toby is the lazy one, Garfeild on the other hand is crazy.

Let me know if im boring you...
Here is a story (what happend tonight my whole family always spends like 2 hours hanging out with them after dinner! XD)

Well i picked up Toby, leaving Garfeild behind. Garfeild started meowing, and then i heard a little bell, he was using his two front paws and just passing it back and fourth. then i looked at him and he went to the front of the crate, and he did this weird thing with his head, he like twisted it in a full circle, while his eyes were just staring at me. It kinda scared me.

lol thats my short paragraph!!! XD

cats can get acne??? weird lol thats bad. hope that doesn't happen, then my dad and mom'll be telling not only me to wash my face but the cats too! lol. atleast we'll match XD! jk i never want any1 or anything to go through wut i am. Crying or Very sad

I'll keep ya posted! and tomorrow my dad'll get my camera out so i can get some pics for ya guys!!! Very Happy also I'll keep ya posted. and if its ok, I'll send ya the link for their blog, if ya guys want!!! Very Happy

Thanx!!!!,
Very Happy Daes Very Happy

Although apparently I've been wrong before with my special cat ^.^, I don't think they get acne. And actually, cats wash their own faces so you should be okay.

Just having water out for them isn't enough, you have to make sure that they are actually drinking it. I have a bowl water for my cats and they rarely touch it. I change the water everyday too and even drop a couple ice cubes into it when it's hot out. Just keep an eye on them and see if they are drinking enough and if they aren't then they may need wet food to keep the hydrated.

Bezz: o ok, lol i thot that sounded funny

Drm: ok, everyday they drink half of the HUGE tub. and they play at night. its funny. We'll go out there, the food is gone the food bowl is way away from where i put it, and there is always a toy in the water bowl and the water bowl is moved with no water spilled at all!!! and also they fling litter EVERYWHERE. i went out in the garage and the litter box has less litter than before and the crate smells really bad, so i have to clean it everyday. also they shread the newspaper, and i go out ther and they jump to the corner pretending they didn't do anything. they are funny. and Toby used to be really wild and now he sleeps on my lap!!! Toby didnt trust anybody two days ago and now he's sleeping on my lap and licking me! and Garfeild is sooooooooooo playful! my mom droped a toy on accident and he jumped off her lap and chased it, Toby just followed it with his eyes!!! Kitties are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun!!!! Very Happy
