Here in in my hometown they have told people not to come to the hospital unless certain syptoms show up. Otherwise stay home and don't go anywhere.

It takes 3 days for a blood test to confirm you have a flu strain 7 to confirm swine flu. So if you go in to get tested by the time they can confirm that it is or isnt swine flu you are probably already better and you exposed the hospital for no good reason.

The doctors just overnight the anti-virals to you and send some to anyone living at the same address. The only death we have had was one kid from Mexico.

But the government and news needs something to scare us with ...otherwise we might wonder what our elected represenatives were doing with our tax money and we might stop buying newspapers....(darn)

lol Laughing The number of times I've heard this conspiracy theory is hilarious. It seems every time there's some sort of disaster (regardless of what it is or where it is) there's always people applying this conspiracy theory to it. I reckon I've heard it in reference to a ton of different disasters, including Global Warming, Katrina, 9/11, and now Swine Flu.

Having said that I have also heard that the American media have a reputation that portrays them as tabloids compared to the media of most other countries, so perhaps the theory is not completely unjustified.

If you want to be guaranteed of getting the facts I suppose your best bet is to just read lots of different sources.

To say that swine flu will ruin the world's population is certainly a severe exaggeration of the truth. Although it is more deadly than most other forms of flu we're not about to see a huge dent in the population as a result of it. Or at least not so long as people and governments are sensible, and so far the majority seem to be doing as well as can be expected in the circumstances.

As far as I know the British media are fairly reliable, although I don't pay a great deal of attention to what they report since the local media here are pretty reliable too, and hence I have no need of looking internationally.

I'll agree that the American media are certainly less than reliable, but having said that don't assume that just because they're reporting it means it's false. Find a source you trust, and cross reference with that. That's what I'd recommend anyway.
