I'm feeling so smart, and at the same time so frigging stupid right now......>.<
For the last few weeks, I've been having, lets call them "issues"** with my pc...More or less, 9 times out of 10 it starting up, then completely refusing to do anything besides that....No matter where I moved my cursor, I couldn't open/close anything, couldn't shut down, blady blady etc etc.......
So I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out why some days it works, but most days it doesn't.....
It's my birthday today ( I feel old! ) and I had a little lightbulb moment....And thought to myself, "Self...What if you can't do anything because its the mouse that isin't working?".....And thinking back on the past few weeks decided no, couldn't be it....Its little flashy light works....Its little pointy hand wanders over the screen....The page moves when the little wheely goes up and down. Can't be the mouse!
While out doing birthdayish things....I said to myself, "Self, give it a try...Just buy a real cheap one in case its not the mouse..."
So I bought the second cheapest in the store ( $29.99! When did they get so expensive?! ).........And my pc is now my friend again *sighs*
So am I older and therefore wiser that I finally figured out what was wrong with it, or just...older and therefore slightly slower in my thinking lol? Can't believe it took me 3 weeks...
** Usually ending in threats of bodily violence with a hammer.... |

Doesn't that just toast your cookies to a warm crunchy shade of charcoal?
Happy Birthday! (Even mice have to go play shuffleboard in Florida eventually, ya know)

yeah I would say that it's about time to for you to play shuffleboard Tani!!! Just kidding well it just shows you that sometimes people have to slow down and think about it harder! unfortunately most people don't so this world is going to the crappy dark side of things. anyway that's way off topic....
Happy Birthday!

The symptoms you're experiencing on your computer sound very similar to what I had recently. If you don't experience these symptoms again after getting the new mouse then you're probably fine, if not it could be your SATA cable needs replacing. This is what fixed my issue.
To test if it's the SATA cable open up your computer so you have access to the motherboard. You should then see a thick flat orange or red cable (occasionally they come in yellow) about 8mm or 1/3 inch wide. (I'm assuming your computer is off at the time, of course.) Take note of what the SATA cable is plugged into on the motherboard. Pull it out completely, then plug it back in. You should feel or hear a small click. If you don't your SATA cable needs replacing, and doing this will fix the issue with the mouse. SATA cables are pretty cheap - less than $5 at your local PC store.
let me know how your computer goes. |

Happy Birthday Vitani, I think we all have those brain farts from time to time, just be glad that you figured out the problem yourself and didn't have to take it to the repair shop and spend lots of money to be told it was your mouse. That makes you smart lol. |

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys, and for helping me feel not so alone on the "er...?" front
Touch wood, it seems to be behaving itself.....But I'll definately remember that Misty in case it starts faffing about again!
I missed seeing my 6 month old Niece because of it, which really bummed me out but now that its fixed I can go back to watching her via webcam...Which is the best present I could've gotten |
