This contest will involve a detailed anatomical study of a horse, and may present an interesting challenge for those of you who specialise in drawing horses. I hope you enjoy it.

Essentially what I am looking for is an image of a skeletal pegasus. The following image gives a very good idea of what I mean by skeletal:
http://www.elfwood.com/art/e/d/edstromj/elfwunwhorse.jpg
if the above link doesn't work, try here: http://www.elfwood.com/~edstromj/Unspoken_Word-Undead_Horse.2704484.html

This pegasus should look rather horrific. Some bone must be visible. The above image did it very well with the skull, especially the mouth, nose and eyes, and a similar effect is preferred. Other bone should also be visible, but you can be creative with this. There must be at least some flesh on the creature - I don't want just a skeleton or something similar. Any part of the coat that remains intact should be charcoal black, and should look in poor condition. The wings must be leathery and bat-like and mostly intact, not almost rotting like the body is. Tears in the wings are acceptable. You may be creative with regard to the pose of the beast, the setting, etc. If you do choose to do a background, make it an appropriate one obviously. No bright meadows with wildflowers or anything like that. lol Try something a bit more apocalyptic. Razz

Any medium except manips is acceptable, although I'm not as strict with the background.

If you wish to run a preliminary sketch past me for suggestions and possible improvements, that's fine. It is by no means required or recommended, I just have no objections if you want to do that.

Prizes
1st prize is $150 mill and a sterile double endangered Bone White Skeletal Pegasus. Both colour and variation are created by me, and neither have been released to the public.
Subsequent cash prizes will be offered to other good quality entries. These will range between $20 mill and $100 mill.

It is on my computer.

Umm... that's it. Do you want eyes on the horse? Or is it suppose to be without eyes. Oooh, and do you want a different pose as well?

I'm thinking about entering... but i've got school in the way. I'll do as much as i can!

any pose you like is fine. and eyes are preferred, even if they're not completely intact.

the image i've provided is only a guideline. there is no need to replicate it. be creative. Smile

linksage, i'm not sure why that link isn't working. it was earlier but for some reason isn't any more. i've put an alternative link up there now. it now links to the page on which the image is displayed.

Awsome, although i think i might keep the eyes perfectly intact!

I'm getting one together, I just need to decide what I'm doing with the background.

I wouldn't blame gimp. It is a fantastic program. However, this requires years of observation of horses. Any drawing that would be considered good, no matter how it is made, requires a lot of practice. You can do really well on gimp if you practice and dedicate hours upon hours of time. Don't blame the program, because adobe or any other 'fancier' program still requires a lot of skill.

Thats why I'm not entering, I don't have the skill. But I can't wait to look at the entries. Very Happy

Like Bezzella said, there is nothing crummy about GIMP. Yeah there are some features I find confusing unless memorized compared to the programs I now use, but for a free-bee it is awesome and you can make things look just as nice in it as you could in photoshop. I have some really old drawing/coloring tutorials I did that were done using GIMP specific features that I can send you a link to if you want to look through them.

If anyone needs a skeletal horse reference you can use this one. He's a little short in the ;eg (used to be a pony) but at least he's acurate. http://www.nearlydrferox.blogging4life.com/wp-content/2009/06/horse-and-birds.JPG
