I've heard that there were more, here in the states. Two in Kansas, where I reside, but nothing big yet. New York and Texas are getting it bad.

In typical blunder fashion Rolling Eyes Our cases are at the same time less/more serious.....

25 people came back from an infected area...

18 of those were ill...

10 of those with 'flu symptoms...

8 "confirmed" to be Swine 'flu...But then given the all clear and we breathed a sigh of relief...

Now they tell us, whoops, we tested them wrong Mad The samples were meant to be sent to Melbourne, but weren't and so we got a premature all clear.........Now that samples have been sent to the right place for the right tests, 3 are definately SF. But meanwhile the house quarantine was lifted and they were allowed visitors....*tears hair out*

This is the kind of blunder Misty was talking about. I'd have thought we'd learnt our lesson by now...Evidently not Shocked

Japan ( I think? ) has been using thermal cameras to spot people coming off planes with a higher than average body temperature, which I think is brilliant. Surely other countries could be doing this? Its not invasive, it doesn't create long hold ups, and on the upside, you might find out your coming down with something other than SF...

I seriously don't think that the swine flu is as bad as the news is making it sound. I mean like what 300 cases world wide last time I checked? Come on! More people die from the regular flu than this one!

The issue is that this strain of flu is deadlier than the normal strains. The reason there have been more people dying of the normal flu is because it is more common. If swine flu were to become just as common as normal influenza, then it would kill more people than normal flu currently does. that's why people are really worried that it might become a pandemic.

Might I mention that only 1% of confirmed cases have died?

That's what I heard Bezzella and I know that the closesed place people have died near me is in Mexico and that's only because they couldn't treat it. I'm not worried because we will be able to... well at least I'm confident that we will stop it there.

Well the reason they 'couldn't treat it' is because they hadn't developed a vaccine yet. The vaccine is now developed and they can treat it. Mexico is having so much trouble because not only is it lacking in santitation, but it is also a very poor country and it cannot afford mandatory vaccines. The reason they cannot fix this is money.

LOL... I had swine flu... confirmed through blood testing etc.... it lasted all of 4 days .... big deal. I have felt sicker and more miserable with pneomonia.

There are a lot of facts they aren't letting out.
1. you can get it from live pigs
2. you can't get it from cooked pork.
3. It is one part Avian one part human and 2 parts swine flu.
4. It is worse in countries without proper health care.
5. people who grew up around pigs and or eat allot of pork are more resistant then people that never eat pork. By ingesting pork and working with pigs you pick up the immunity, then you are only suceptible to the human and bird strains mixed in.
6. pigs can get anything humans can and vice versa. So it is just as accurate to say its 3 parts human and one part bird flu.
7. To die from it you need an already compromised immune system, improper healthcare or be very old or very young or all of the above.
8. It only takes 13 weeks to make a vaccine
9. Goverments are freaking out because they aren't listening to scientists and healthcare specialists.

I'm really annoyed at the moment... Austraila's toll: 166 and rising by 50 every day. The trouble I've got with the government is that they can't stop the flights from Mexico and NZ... which really get's on my nerves.

And If it's that simple to get rid off then I suggest that all who dang well have it just go and tell a doc and getter damn better. It's only takes a week to get better... and that was only for a kid! I mean.. what the hell is going on!

Rosecat's right as well: The government is too busy freaking out than to listen to the scientists and health care specialists. GRRR, they seem to be engulfed in how the stupid enconimy. COME ON PEOPLE FROM THE GOVERNMENT! Listen to the people who know instead of making it worse than it is!

What is think the gov should really be doing is:
1. Delay flights fro other countires with Swine flu
2. Get all the people to a doctor who has Swine flu and treat them, and
3. Listen to the profesional you government twits! They can actually help all the victims!

Right, I'm sorry for the rant but I just had to let that go!

Haha Choc, I know just how you feel! I rant at the news every time I watch it...I know they can't hear me but it makes me feel better Laughing

Our cases have pretty much dried up, theres just a lingering couple...We're controlling our incomings and outgoings much better than in the early days of it...

I heard on our news that a cruise ship docked in Sydney and there was a big broohaha about not letting anyone off till they'd all been tested which they supposedly were, and now everyones going bananas saying the people from the ship had something like 20 cases?
I can't find any articles that agree on what happened ( much like our dramas over the Rangitoto kids ) so being an Ozzie...Can you tell me what actually happened? Your news is probably more reliable than ours lmao....

While i was sick with the swine flu a couple of months ago, I researched a lot! And... I found out that the swine flu was partly from a factory!!! It got releasted!!! And my friend she's all like oh you can't get swine flu, u can ONLY get it from a human, there is no other way, then when my mom was tested (she had the exact same thing!) it turned up positive, but she's like, ur just overreacting. she's weird. lol she for some reason is jealous of me and she's a year older and has like a perfect life. lol
