My sweet Mom passed away on Thursday night, so I will be hit and miss on the game for awhile. She had lung cancer and had just started chemo and radiation, but her cancer was too agressive and her body too weak to fight it. She was in no pain but the cancer was advancing into her trachea and it was only a matter of time before she would not be pain free. Once my Dad, brother, sister and I could all be there, her breathing mask was removed so we could talk and say our good-byes. She was given morphine to keep her pain free, she knew what was happening and accepted it with no fear.

This is hitting me harder than I ever expected, and writing this is part of my personal healing process. I am a very reserved and introverted person by nature, and being this public could help.

I know this has been said before, but it is true. Do not wait to let your friends and family members know that you love them. We were very fortunate to have a few moments to talk with my Mom, but it could have been much different at the end.

Her life on this earth has come to an end, but I will remember her last words forever:

"I'm happy"

Terri (aka Rusty)

this is sadly moving.

sorry doesn't change things, and I don't feel like sorry is proportionally appropriate.

you're in my thoughts and I'm best at listening, because sometimes that's all you need.
Terri, I'm here. take care of yourself, okay?

My thoughts and prayers are with you as well. I can't say I know how you feel, but my heart aches for you in this difficult time for you. Happy healing. (..well, as happy as it can be. Wink )

Rusty,

I know what you are going through, My mom passed away when I was 19. She had an aneurysm in her brain but she was too weak to operate on, they were waiting for her to gain her strength back but it burst before she could. The family made the decision to take her off life support because she would have been a vegetable and that is no way to live. I know that you and I have had some differences in the game but I want you too know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time and I know it's hard too when your grieving but think about all the good times you had with your mother. I am pretty she would not want you to be sad. Keep your chin up and be brave, the pain will eventually get better but the memories will always be with you.

Terri, I wish I knew what to say... somehow, everything that comes to mind sounds trite. Just know that I, like many others here, will be thinking about you and wishing you well in this difficult time.

I am glad to hear that you got to sat the things you needed her to hear, and I think that as time goes on, those last moments will offer you a great deal of comfort and aid in gaining closure.

If there's anything I can do for you, even if it's just lending a virtual ear, don't hesitate to ask.

I am deeply sorry for your loss and hope that the fond memories that you have of your mother and the love and support of your family and friends provide you the solace you need and deserve.

With sympathy,

Amanda

My prayers are with you. I'm sure its a big consolation that she was happy before she went though. Good luck with everything and remember to be thankful for having such a great mom all these years *hugs*

I'm really sorry Rusty. I really am.

I wish that I could do and/or say more, but when you lose a loved one, I've found that nothing much helps.

I hope you feel better soon. That's SO sad. I don't know how losing a family member feels since nobody has died in my presence unless I was like 2 years old but it must be terrible! I'm sooo sorry!

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and words of comfort. Good memories are starting to replace the images I am trying to forget, so thats progress.

Now the challenge is getting Dad up and running. He has no idea where things are in the house..pots, pans, vacuum. He was not involved with the bill paying, and has no idea how to wash his clothes. Yep, I'm working on all of that. At least he can cook...somewhat. If you could eat chili and homemade ham and bean soup on a daily basis he would be all set Smile

Every day is a gift, so enjoy the little things. Like Janis said, "I would trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday".....
