Daisy, if you have Ivermectin a drop or 2 on the back of their neck (or sub-cu if you can do it) will kill the fleas. I think cat/kitten flea powder is safe, too.

never had THIS particular problem, i do know if you bathe a Rex it realy screws up their fur. When I get home ill do a little more research

I just realized something! The previous owner breeded maybe thirty rabbits and was always itching and Peter (my red mini rex) Had little white eggs. I just thought "Dandruff oh well" Then yesterday i saw like ten black little bugs crawling in his face and when ever i blew into his face like five would come out and like burrow some where else. Then i told my parents and now we are like freaking out! Im DEATHLY afraid of FLEAS for some reason. I think because my mom said people and animals have to have a chemical bath!

PLEASE HELP!

thank you sooooo much i did research last night but after reading "horror stories" (to me they were) I just decided to stop. I really apreciate the help. my dad said 7 dust and diatomatus earth but im not sure. and i don't feel like vacuming the whole house and spreading mothballs and stuff. (its what a website said.) plus i think moth balls are bad for animals and humans, i try to stay away from toxic stuff or gross stuff. As you know Im freaking out because out of 45 rabbits Ive had not one of them had fleas! I don't know how he got them, but like i said probly the previous breeder. who really wusn't a breeder at all.

Thanx,
DaisyRabbitMae

I WOULD NOT use sevin dust -if you think they are in the house you do need to vacuum thoroughly every 3 days(at least) and take the vacuum bag out of the house

The House Rabbit Society wrote:

Fleas and Mites
Safe treatments to prevent and kill fleas on rabbits include Advantage (imidocloprid), Program (lufenuron) and Revolution (selamectin). The latter is preferred, as it is also effective against various types of mites that cause symptoms of mange, ear canker, and "dandruff" (which is often caused by fur mites in the genus Cheyletiella). These products are available from your rabbit-savvy veterinarian, who can explain dosage and treatment regimens to you at the time of prescription.
A flea comb is a non-toxic device that takes more patience, but is both physically and psychologically rewarding. Most rabbits learn to love the attention of being flea combed, and it can be used as a supplement to your main flea-control program.

The following products should NOT be used on rabbits:
# Frontline (fipronil) has been linked to neurological damage and death in rabbits, although this product is apparently safe for dogs and cats. The manufacturer (Merial) has placed a warning on the Frontline label stating that Frontline should never be used on rabbits.
# Flea powders, even those considered safe for cats and kittens or advertised as "rabbit safe", are not recommended for use on rabbits.
# Flea shampoos, even those considered safe for cats and kittens or advertised as "rabbit safe", are not recommended for use on rabbits. Bathing of rabbits, in general, is strongly discouraged because the stress of the bath itself can cause serious health problems, and has in some cases been linked to the death of the rabbit. Flea baths or dips are NOT recommended for this reason.
# For environmental flea control, sprays and "bombs" are not recommended, as they may leave harmful residue that the rabbit can ingest. Safer alternatives include borax and diatomaceous earth, worked into the carpet where fleas leave their eggs.

Keep in mind that now they're in the area, you're going to have to do regular flea upkeep for the rest of your rabbits' lives. Once fleas move into an environment, it's nearly impossible to kill them all. Parasites are yet another reason to keep bunnies (and cats and dogs) inside.

I used advantage on mine when we found a flea on one of the bunnies. It is very easy to use. Luckily we only saw that one so we caught them pretty early before they bred. It didn't help that it was are nethy/lionhead as her fur is probably the hardest to root through Confused We also washed all the mats and carpets in the bunnies hutch to make sure there was no way that there were any other fleas.

is it like liquid tho? Because when Peter gets wet just from the water bottle his fur gets all madded and we have to like blow dry him. and then he still has a little bit of madded fur. We used sevin dust in his hutch and a little bit on his back and he doesn't have living fleas, he has eggs now. I'm not sure if sevin dust will kill eggs. I will try advantage.

Thanx,

Ask your local vet for advice also, they may be able to suggest a few things which you could use. Just be very careful of what you use though, as some substances which may be ok for say cats and dogs, can be fatal to rabbits. So please make sure you reasearch before using anything.

I think the first suggestion made would be what I would say, ivermectin is probably the best. There is a fairly new product out called Xeno 450 or Xeno 50 (Different sizes) this is an ivermectin based treatment and kills most parasites.

I use this to treat worms and mites on my ferrets. It works wonders.

we used sevin dust on the rabbit, I had my dad call his friend who raises rats and mice and used to breed rabbits, we just have to do it every six days for a month. its really gross, but its working, no living ones just eggs left, so we have to continue till they hatch.
