I think that the surgeon slipped.

Now that my mouth is less swollen I can see inside.

There is a stitch where the tooth would be removed from, AND two more stitches at the side of my cheek. (Nowhere near the tooth) also my tongue is still a little numb after a whole week?!?

Going for a checkup on Monday so gonna ask about it.

1. All dentists are sadists
2. problems? See #1

having been a victim of numerous dental tortures you have ALL my sympathy, and no, it shouldnt be numb after a week, and there shouldnt be stitches in your cheek

Where in your cheek are the stiches? I had 2 or three in both cheeks near-ish to the gums where my teeth were because he had to come in from the side to get all of the peices out. Mabey your dentist had to do the same thing? Your tounge definatly shouldn't still be numb though, I would call them up and ask if it could be something serious.

Stitches in the cheeks are actually the norm when removing impacted wisdom teeth....Most dentists are unable to go in from above so *sorry, gruesome* they kind of fillet your gum and cheek to expose the tooth...Your lucky, I had several in either cheek, along all four exposed gum areas and two pretty much bang in the middle...I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to get more than a straw in for a week...A spoon for two weeks after that...Even now its not exactly as it was. By all means ask if your concerned, but I'm expecting that'll be why your cheeks are stitched...

As to your tongue being numb...Did your dental surgeon go through the associated risks of wisdom tooth removal with you beforehand? Its very poor practice if they didn't...One of the associated risks is nerve damage to the tongue, lips or cheek resulting from snipping the nerve during extraction. At around a 3% incidence rate, its a pretty low risk, but its there regardless...In around 1% of patients the damage is permanent but not debilitating. Definately ask...I was numb for a long time, but I'm a slow healer - I have no remaining issues with it now, but it took a few months...

Best of luck, and hopefully theres no harm done, just a bit of residual effect! *hugs*

ah thats quite informational, and explains why i got so easy off, mine was able to go in from the top i belive (which is why he probably on the other end had to crush the bloody thing to get it out)...hearing all the stories i started to wonder how i could get off as easy

i hope there is no perm damage, of course there are risks with all procedures, i was never told of any though logicaly thinking about it most people know there always are some (without maybe knowing the exact ones), then again with a tooth the wrong way i dont know if you got much of a choise, on the other hand if it is a dificult procedure this should be revealed on a scan and you should be sent to an expert to lower such risks

Well tongue is STILL slightly numb, although it is getitng better. I'm still in a bit of pain, and still having to take painkillers occasionally, but I think that might be stemming form my other tooth which still has to be fixed.

My checkup is in 2 days so I will deff be querying things. The stitches don't seem to want to come out though Sad I was told to brush that side when I brushed my teeth (after 2 weeks) and they should just come away. THEY LIED lol. The're still hanging on in there lol.

I just can't wait for everything to be done and I can finally eat normally. (I still cant open my mouth very wide as it's very sore.)

I seriously dislike dentists now, like RZ said they are all sadists lol

Dissolvable stitches....Dissolve. After healing....Don't force, or pick at them. Its a pain and so tempting to play with them with your tongue lmao, but they'll come when they are ready and not before...Healing rate plays a big part...I was spitting bits for a few weeks...After almost a month of initial healing...

Hang in there! *hugs*
