As some of you know...I haven't taken an exam in 82 days...I realized that almost everything on my farm was either just about to be, or already past retirement age...So I've spent the past 2 1/2 odd months ( ! ) frantically downsizing, categorizing, and of course, breeding...
Now, at the moment theres alot of broohaha about excessive breeding...And I'm on the less is more side of the debate. Keep rare things rare, as they should be....But in my search to breed...Sometimes I couldn't even find animals that were op/op for sale/stud. Alot of my animals weren't bred...Because there simply wasn't something of the same type owned by an active player...And that makes it REALLY hard to replace what I've got...Especially since I'm now out of tokens >.<
I have good friends here, who I trust, and am trusted by in return for the higher rarity animals, which I am exceedingly grateful for...But even they didn't have some of the things I needed. Its all well and good to rescue but that can be costly, and not very effective in trying to get a 'line' going...So what does everyone else think? I don't want to start a topic that ends in an argument ( and yes I know similar topics have been started recently, this is a little different, but if it offends anyone, please let me know )
Overbreeding of the high rarity animals while the low rarity ones shrivel up into dust on farms that aren't active....Is it just me, or is too many just as bad as not enough?
I'm about to go take my first exam now that I've done the best I can to replace what I've got...Its been long and frustrating and I'll be clicking the button with my eyes shut and fingers crossed... |

No, I've still got animals...I've just had a bunch of births but it was pretty grim collecting the stats...
After the first exam:
243 animals retired to Florida....Of those 243,
60 retired without giving birth - So I'll never be able to breed those colours/variations again unless I buy new ones...
108 gave birth to animals that did not have the same colour/variation as the female...
I think I need a cookie |

Aww. I hope you are able to get your farm back together again. Since I'm leaving, if you see any animals on my farm you want, I can sell them to you for really cheap. =)

I had the same thing happen three or four months ago so I know how you feel Take a peek at my farm, if I have any colors or variations you lost just let me know and I'll breed you some replacements. Also, if you need to have some critters give birth but you don't wan't take take an exam lest more animals go to florida, you can send them over to me to give birth on my farm. Just give me a pm if you need any help |

I've always felt that there needs to be a balance when it comes to breeding. Not enough is just as bad as too much in my opinion.
Too much breeding is bad because it reduces the value of the animals, but if there's so little breeding the animal eventually becomes extinct, what's it worth then?
If you need to borrow some animals let me know. Some of my animals have 'breed to replace only' conditions on them, but I'd be willing to let you borrow them so long as you release any offspring with their variation or colour or whatever their conditions apply to.
One thing I've found helps is to send the males off on contract to people who own females of similar rarities (who aren't about to retire), and get them to breed the animals and send the males home before they take an exam, that way if the breeding fails you can still try again. I'm currently doing that for a friend who's currently trying to replenish their farm. Depending on what you need breeding I may be able to help. |

Awww....See, this is the kind of community spirt thats been so lacking lately....I have warm fuzzies thanks to you guys!
Thank you all for your very generous offers....I'm slowly starting from square one again, trying to breed whats left, fix the disasters from the last exam, and replenish my stock...I like a game thats challenging but jeeze, I don't need the stress >.<
I did end up with some duplicates...Certain ones are going on the market, some others will be auctioned, and some are by invite only...As I go through ( enclosures will start appearing again as I "fix" them, probably in about a week ) anything in there thats unnamed is potentially for sale so if you see something you want, I'm open to cash/trades...Trades are almost preferred since that'll help me get good breeding foundations again...
I'm upset about lack of available stock in many cases, but I hope anyone taking a look for potential sales/trades knows that EBA ideals are affixed to all my animals, even low rarity ones...I'm not against the breeding of animals...Its overbreeding that upsets me. Too many and not enough are equally as bad...Use your best judgement before hitting that breed button
Thanks again guys...Cookies all round! |
