Well as some of you may know I was due to have a operation to remove one of my wisdom teeth.
I had the op yesterday, and how come NO ONE mentioned how much pain there was afterwards? Not really something that can be ignored is it? lol
Anyway, I found the whole experience quite bizzare. I definatly DID NOT like the sensation of the anasthetic travelling up my arm.
I think I snored at some point, and I had some VERY odd dreams
But other than that I don't suppose the op was that bad.
My work seemed to think that I'd be back at work the very next day!! Come on people, are they really THAT stupid? I mean I've had a bloomin operation. Yes it's minor, but I can't talk, eat, drink or move without it starting to bleed again. So mucking out stables, teaching and stuff REALLY not going to happen lol.
ANyway just wanted to share this strange experience with people and say that I should be a little more active now |

wow must been a tricky one
both me and my sis had to have wisdoms cut out, she had to take her with a spezialist due to it being more severe then mine, mine was just laying the wrong way, they cut up the skin over (my normal dentist) broke the tooth in 2 and pulled it out on just heavily local anastetics...dont remember if there was stiches...i do remember i got painkillers for 4 days though
which my mom made me stop taking after 3 because she felt i was too out of it on them (in combination with newly asigned allergy med due to newly gained allergy)
cant remember it being much pain, more like akward sensation, and i couldnt take too much chewing (so soft food)...but yeah i guess i got really lucky cause i compared to what you got got easy out of it (i basicaly just got an excuse due to being druged for drowsing and sleeping a lot the conecting weekend) |

Yeah, my tooth was also growing horizontally instead of vertically. But Surgeon said it'd be better to be fully anethatized.
My medication consists of
Co-codamol (Painkillers)
Diclofenec (sp?) - Painkiller/anti inflam
And something else which I can't remember the name for, which is a antibiotic type.
I also have some mouthwash, which is basically Hibi Scrub (Those in medical or animal proffesion will possily know what that is) and it tastes VILE.
Just counting down the minutes till I can have my next dose, because it hurts like mad at the mo |

Yeah I was knocked out completely to have mine out lol All four at one time, two were sideways. I took one Motrin the day of the surgery and never had to take another painkiller. The most annoying part was having to sleep propped up (I'm a very picky sleeper lol) and having such a restricted diet. I went to the movies a couple days later XD I guess I could have been the poster child for the procedure, because I didn't swell up either, didn't even bruise. |

Yay Mash! Glad its over and done with for you now hun......You should be feeling better within a few days, and if your anything like me, will just go from strength to strength till you feel like "Surgery? What surgery?"
I take Diclofenac anyway because of my spine....But got an extra prescription from them too lol, and was also given Augmentin antibiotic, a painkiller I can't remember the name of but was Codeine and something else, and Phenergan which I also take anyway for allergies, but its a very good sedative/sleep aid...
Mine took a long time to heal, I had dissolvable stitches because my mouth was crammed with them....If you have them too, prepare yourself for the weird sensation of spitting out 'thread' for a week or two as they seal over lol....I don't know how badly you were cut to get them out....But once my stitches healed I had to do jaw exercises so that my gums and insides of my cheeks didn't shrink and get rigid...It was quite uncomfortable at first because I couldn't open my mouth very far, but its almost completely normal now...Its not as good as it was pre-surgery, but I'm the only one who notices it lol!
I used warm ( hot enough to stand but not burn your mouth ) salted water, about 1 teaspoon per cup of water to rinse my mouth several times a day once I'd stopped bleeding, about day 3-4...Don't know if you were recommended to do that, it tastes yuck, but you get used to it pretty quick...It helps keep away bugs, and helps encourage healing in your gums...Check with your Dentist/Doctor first...And if its ok for you to do it, just gently swirl the water...Too much force can irritate rather than heal >.<
Keep us updated on how your going! *gives soft, suckable cookies* |

I had all my wisdom teeth out a few years ago and the oral surgeon who performed the operation said I was his worst patient ever. I get the feeling he's been in the business a while, so that's saying something. Essentially I was only meant to be given a local anaesthetic for the op, but the sedative completely and utterly failed to sedate me in any way shape or form, largely due to the fact that I went into the op feeling pretty anxious, and as a result panicked on the operating table. I mainly blame this on a friend of my parents' who seemed to find it amusing to regale me with stories of wisdom teeth operations that went horribly wrong, not long before I was meant to have my own op. So I speak from experience when I say too much information can be a bad thing, which is, I suspect, the reason why you've found people have been withholding some of the information regarding just how bad it can be.
I also speak from experience when I say the worst is over, and it's all looking up from here. Hope things are feeling better soon. |

Lol thankies guys.
Yeah, feeling a lot better today. My face is still very swollen and bruised, but I don't think it's quite as bad as it was yesterday.
I still can't eat (how annoying) but I'm able to talk a wee bit better now
I've had a look at my stitches (me being the curious little kitty I am) and I think there are stitches in my cheek. So weather they slipped or weather they just needed to cut that part I don't know. But it's very sore.
I sympathize with anyone who has had this done, and anyone who needs it doing. It isn't fun, but hopefully the outcome will be beneficial. (I was in a lot of pain before the op lol)
But thanks guys for all your support.

Why did all of you have to have your wisdom teeth removed? Were they painful or something? I am in my 30's and I still have mine. I'm just curious. |

Well, in my case, my bottom left wisdom tooth was growing horizontally instead of vertically. This caused a whole inbetween the wisdom tooth and the one in front. Food and stuff got stuck over time and strated to rot away the other tooth.
My dentist said that it would be better to remove the wisdom tooth, then try to save the other one. So I've got a root canal job to look forwards to yet.
But yeah, my others are fine so far *Touch Wood* |

Ouch I can see why you'd get it removed. |

It is fairly common for there to be problems when wisdom teeth grow in. Mostly they grow in at a bad angle, or the person has a small jaw and simply doesn't have room for more teeth. So they get removed.
Some people are lucky enough to have their wisdom teeth grow in without any issues, or else never have them grow in at all.
Essentially wisdom teeth are a leftover part of our earlier evolutionary development that isn't really needed any more, like the appendix, so if they get removed it's no big deal. |

Poor you, I had 'fun' at the dentist the other day. Had a filling.... she drilled a into the cavity with no anasthetic ! My gosh the most unpleasant feeling! Like having a jackhammer to your bones sending shivers up your whole body. |

i had mine reomved bacause frankly
1 you dont need them
2 sooner or later most people get problems with them
3 i already had issues with my regular ones and was often at the dentist
4 before 18 its free here, as long as your in high school after that its just a fraction of the price, once you become adult its equalent of several houndred dollars to get just one removed (and i expected to need it sooner or later, so why not get it done for free/cheap)
so even before the last one who grew the wrong way was discovered, and without the dentist even asking or recomending, once they started coming i asked to have them removed as they came in
i cant remember bleeding, swelling, geting any mouthwash, having any diet restrictions or anything (got a prescription paracetamol which is stronger then the regular one you can buy in the grocery stores is all) |
