I just read this report and I hope that it's true, I've never liked animal testing and the abuse and torture that the animals go through in these labs.

Well I know you love the animals, but what is the alternative?
Perhaps plant testing. xD Yeah.
The only thing is otherwise we cannot test if drugs are safe for humans. It is illegal to let humans take untested drugs. The only thing that I believe is 'unnecessarily abusive' to the testing animals is probably living conditions. |

The article states that the testing will be done on samples of human cells:
Quote: |
A few hundred human cells grown in a test tube go into each well. Then, guided by a computer, the testing machine drips a different chemical into each well. After a while, the machine shines a laser through each well to see how many cells remain. A computer analyzes the toxicity of each compound based on how the cells react.

I agree that testing shouldnt be done on animals, like they do on human cells for animal testing stuff they should use animal cells. |

I just don't see how a person could read into cells that well. I know you can count the cells, but what if there is a specific side effect, for example blindness. This can't be tested in animal cells. Cells don't have eyes... Cells have no senses. It is merely a test of toxidity... |

Not all experiments that involve animal testing have more ethical alternatives, so this article's claim that these methods will remove the need for animal testing in any experiment are false. It's just a case of the media getting a bit hyped up and misinterpreting the facts.
Sorry to dash everyone's hopes. |
