I haven't had them but my sister did when she was younger....She found sucking an iceblock ( lol, I think its called a popsicle to the Americans? ) helped numb her mouth so it didn't hurt so bad after getting them tightened....

Apart from that, sorry Sad I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice though, and good luck with your braces! Smile

I'm a Kiwi lol Smile ( New Zealand, just in case you hadn't ever heard that expression )

A Popsicle here is a brand, but the thing itself, we call an ice-block.....

I prefer the American names for alot of things, they sound so much cooler than ours....Like candy and soda instead of lollies and soft drink >.<

We call Australia "Down Under"....Which I've never really understood because geographically to N.Z, its more a kind of "Up Over" lmao....

I've got braces! And I personally think they are awesome. But I didn't think so until like a week had passed since I got them. My suggestions would be, eat soft foods, take some kind of pill to relieve pain, and use the wax that they should give you. It helps! Anyway, it's fun to pick out colors every month (I'm a blonde and I take joy in that kind of thing!), and I think they make me look ten times better! So good luck!

Bratterratt Very Happy

I had them for 3 years, they pretty much suck. It was all worth it in the end for me though, I have beautiful teeth now lol. My only suggestions would be stock up on painkillers and pudding. Also, if you play a wind instrament, the braces are going to screw you up for a while. I play the F horn and when I had my braces they used to make my lips bleed when I practied for long periods of time. Confused You probably won't have to worry about that though lol. Mainly it hurts a day or two when you get them tightened, occasionally a wire will get loose and poke you, and food gets caught in them. Overall, it's all worth it to get nice teeth Very Happy

Um. Don't get hit in the face with a basketball while wearing them.

xD Self explanatory.

Oh, and they're good defense from cute boys. You won't have to worry about them for a while.

*Laughs*, Nice Bezzella, get her really psyched for all of the good things to come with braces. *Rolls on ground to control giggling*

But really, don't get hit in the face with any kind of ball. It HURTS!! If you play sports, I would probably get a mouthguard.

Queso had a great explanation though. They do hurt for awhile, but the pain will eventually go away. The pudding and painkillers work REALLY well. Esp. Ibuprofen. As Queso said, be careful when playing an instrument that you use your mouth for - I play the clarinet and, let me tell you, practicing was pretty painful for awhile.

I kinda agree with Bratteratt... - except for the part about them being awesome, I think they're a drag.

Daisy Rabbit Mae - Besides from the fact that I don't really recommend going through the whole process, in the end, braces are a great invention, and they will make your teeth look gorgeous. Good Luck and have fun for the next few years.

~Kayla~

P.S. Please, no one answer the question - What does lmao mean?! - Wait until you are older to find out what it means.
