DRAMA. ::shudder:: Everyone's seen their fair share lately. It seems to be spreading like a disease around here, and like every disease, we are seeing casualties. Escalating conflicts and ill-will are fouling our environment here, and unless we are able to contain this "contaminant", we will see others fade away, too.
Some of us are losing trading partners, co-creators, and worst of all, friends. It's getting to be quite an epidemic around here lately, and I, for one, would like to take preventative measures before this game becomes ALMOST EXTINCT (which could happen if there's no more creators or players around). I am feeling this awfully personally, as Jim, my greatest ally and partner on this game and IRL (my fiancee!), is one of the many casualties.
There's another point that we're not considering here: the Almost Extinct variations, colors, and occasionally, the details that become completely extinct when their creators leave for good. Jim wanted me to compile this list so that other players could appreciate the cost of not observing the "Golden Rule", so here it is - a list of the creations that are likely gone FOREVER, as their creators haven't been back in at least 6 months:
(*NOTE* those in red are gone for good, as the only ones left in the game are STERILE, there are NONE left in the game, or their owners haven't been on in over a year or their account is EMPTY)

... and, in honor of contracts I made and out of respect for their creators - a monument to them, if you will - here's a list of creations that are basically extinct because they WILL NOT leave my farm (the lack of consideration of other players is why these friends of mine left in the first place):

We have lost two of the most prolific creators in the game (two of my most trusted friends here), and without them here, many creations will be gone FOREVER. So many great ideas, so many lovely creations, all needlessly gone. Is this what we want? How many more additions to this list can we afford?
If this doesn't convince people to treat eachother with respect, I don't know what will.
~ Amanda @ Aljan
PS Please post here if there are other Extinct AE creations I have missed! I sincerely hope there aren't any more... these are MORE than enough!

I was *JUST* having this conversation with Jim!
Galen, Leopardstorm, Freedom, Redlaserfrog, Meryck, mustanggal, Mouse, lucinelady, my old friends and now Jinnx (who I don't think has made an official announcement, but she's been absent for awhile), odin, Chillygirl, Leopardstorm... there's more I'm forgetting...
:::long, sad sigh:::
I'm wondering if I should create a new club: the Aljan Farms Sanctuary for Abused and Endangered SBF Seniors! HA!

*waves hand* I'm still here and I don't plan on leaving.
Well hopefully people will read this and realise that they should stop the bickering and stupid drama. The lack of drama was one of the main reasons I stuck with this game to begin with. It makes me sad when I think of all of the people who've left, I think nearly everyone from my origional group of friends here are gone. *sniffle*
*chains herself to the railing next to Tani* I don't want to see anyone else go |

No player stays forever, and only a small portion leave as a result of 'drama'. To be honest, the only recent drama casualty I know of is odin. Are there others I'm not aware of?
I'm not sure I entirely understand your point of view, Aljan.
On the one hand you try to discourage people breeding AEs or selling them whole so as to keep them rare, but on the other hand you are upset that some AEs are so rare they are actually extinct.
If an AE is almost never bred or sold whole, it will eventually go extinct. Guaranteed. This is why I don't agree with some of the breeding practices some people have been trying to impress upon others. A small amount of breeding will maintain a small active population (by active I mean animals owned by active players). This will still maintain the rarity, and hence the value of the animal, but will prevent it from going extinct entirely. People just have to remember that where there is a constant active population, there will be a growing total population, mostly due to the fact that inactive animals never get a chance to go to Florida. I've noticed that animals with large populations are typically those that are long-lived, meaning that their owners usually quit before the animal dies. These animals don't necessarily have large active populations though. |

I think the point that the EBA were making is to breed, yes, but to breed to REPLACE existing animals going to florida.
NOT to breed to sell constantly without creators permission.
I myself have made a complete boo boo, as I haven't been as active on here for a while, my AE Egyptian Polecate Ferrets have gone to Florid before I could breed a replacement. I have one offspring which I got back from Odin before she left . But she is too closly related to nearly all my other ferrets, so I'm desperatly trying to re create another before she retires.
If the breeding is done within contract stipulations and kept to the person entrusted to the creation, then I don't see a problem with it.
It's when they are bred for constant profit that I have issues with things. |

My point was that if this was the only breeding that happened, then as a result of animals dying before being replaced and owners quitting, then the active population of an animal would steadily decrease until it reached zero.
I'm sure we'd all agree that it's not nice to see someone breeding lots of offspring just to sell for a quick profit, but we need to remember that breeding to replace and overbreeding are at opposite ends of quite a broad spectrum, and there's plenty of things in the middle. |

mash, as usual, you and I see eye-to-eye. Perhaps that's why I see you as a pal here on SBF!
... Well, that and you've done a LOT to spread the word about being respectful of other's creations here.

I do not see the point to this topic... Is it to advocate breeding more or less? I would assume less becuase of what you usually talk about, but then why would you list all the animals that there are none of? Quite frankly, I am confused... |

Aw, I'm on your list. I still get on sometimes to see what's going on with everyone, I just kind of quit on the gaming part of SBF.
That's sad that so many animals are gone from SBF forever. I guess I never really thought about how that could happen. It seems like not that long ago I was seeing some of those creations up for sale, too. |

Redlazerfrog! *POOF* and you're back to hop in (heh, heh, heh...) and say hello! Super-duper-cool! Glad you're still around... you were one of the first players I traded with here!
... and any-hoo, Bezella (didn't you quit?!), I'll spell it out, although I thought the point I was driving home was pretty clear in the topic title.
DRAMA = EXTINCTION
People breaking contracts, flaming eachother, overbreeding others' creations, often End's and such bought with TOKENS (which has been a bone of contention lately), etc. makes for a hostile environment.
=
People who create see what happens to their obtainable stock (End's and such) and feel that they have to guard their more-prized AE's with their lives because of the duplicity of others, which severely narrows the "genepool" and, finally tiring of all of the nonsense that has become par for the course lately, these jaded people end up LEAVING, taking the ability to reproduce their heavily-guarded creations with them. This results in extinction of species AND players.
It's not just odin who has left, but I'm not going to start dropping tons of names here for the sake of argument. Ive been here since the Beta days, and I am really distraught at the increasing exodus of long-time, upstanding members that have made it public that they're leaving because of what I'm describing. It's not coincidence... and I'm not going to stand idly by.
Stay tuned to the Club Announcements board for some POSITIVE steps I'm going to try to implement through the club I created to stem the flow of this increasing problem.

Actually, could you throw at least a few more out there? Cos at the moment I only know of the one example, so from my point of view it just looks like you're upset over odin leaving, when in fact you probably have a valid point with plenty of examples to back it up that you just haven't mentioned yet. |

um no offense but you are the only one who KEEPS bringing this up since the first topic was closed, not once but this makes threes separate topics.
as i keep trying say not all 'banned' members overbreed their animals becuase i have jut about all of you end horse creations and have yet to sell or trade any without you breathing down my neck.
you talk about exsintion like we are causing it but yet you fuss when i try to enlarge the gene pool of some endangered animals. most in which have only 2 foundy pairs and however many animals YOU breed.
you complain about how many numbers of animals there are, but yet you like others (including myself) have at times half a dozen of a creation just in hopes of keeping breedable pairs.
honestly i am getting sick of this. people complain that animals are being unethicaly bred but that is not so in almost half the cases. yes we do have a few newbies that may do it but do we leave them much choice?
if there are no animals on the market then what are they to do, buy them with tokens. and with so many people trying to collect (which mind you is the point of SBF) then yes they may sell some but is in hopes of yes making money but making others happy at the same time.
do you not remember how it felt when you got a specail animal when you just started? the happiness it brought you? the joy of saying finally though i cant have it in real life i have it here on sbf.
we have lost our focus of the game, and friendships. i use to trade with you Aljan, but due to all this bad blood i doubt we ever will again, which is sad i think. i was always so happy when i was ably to create a beast of beauty that i could trade for one of yours.
i truly miss the old days where we were less worried about animals numbers (except AE) and just enjoyed helping each other. i miss donating tokens to others peoples creations so that they could feel for the first time how it felt to see one of their desires added to the game.
sorry is i have rabbled on but it had to be said. |
