Below is a proposal on possible banner sizes and pricing for advertisements on the news letter. There is an attached Poll with only three options, but we would like your input either way. Any ideas, comments, or concerns are welcomed since we will begin offering advertisement for the March 1st issue.

Thank you,
Orbis Newsletter Staff

Banner Sizes & Advertisement Proposal
As the Orbis Games community grows, the newspaper staff is striving to maintain that same momentum for the months to come. One of the ways to maintain interest is by offering advertisements at affordable prices. This idea has come up a few times, but newsletter staff never reach an agreement on execution. Within this proposal you will find workable size dimensions, fixed pricing, servicing fees, as well as future possibilities. Prices and services would be specifically aimed at Orbis Games members, with aims of making them newsletter/game related and affordable.

Why Charge For Banners
We want to make this newsletter exciting for everyone in the community by hosting fun events every few months. The problem there is, how do we reward members from 5 different games? The only universal way to reward members is through game credits. So the money earned through advertisements will go towards all of our contests.

Preset Banner Sizes
The news letter is typically divided into three columns for easy reading. Some articles take up 2 columns, some take all three, but usually we try to evenly balance between 1 and 2 columns articles.

BANNER 1: 250w x 100h pixels
The banner is designed to fit perfectly in any of the three columns.

BANNER 2: 250w x 200h pixels
The banner is designed to fit perfectly in any of the three columns.

BANNER 3: 580w x 100h pixels
This banner spreads across two columns and is a fixed size.

BANNER 4: 580w x 200h pixels
This banner spreads across two columns and is a fixed size.

Proposed Pricing
Below are two price plans. Plan A is based on dollar increments, while Plan B is based on half dollar increments. Both plans already include fees that PayPal take out. We will only be doing this through PayPal.

It seems a bit expensive. In both proposals a very basic advertisement costs US$1.33, yet for that same price a SBF or Legendera player could purchase at least 133 tokens, which seems much better value for money. Especially since a bigger, better advertisement can appear on the forums for free, and reach a lot more people.

Even if the newsletter advertisement did increase the amount of money a person got for whatever they were trying to sell, would the additional profits balance out the price of the ad?

I would imagine that most things worth advertising would sell well enough that they would negate the need for a paid advertisement.

Honestly, I can't see this catching on unless the prices are severely lowered. Perhaps it would also be beneficial for people to be given the ability to pay for ads using previously bought game credits, eg: paying with SBF tokens. This would probably increase the value-for-money of the ad, since it would reduce paypal fees and such. Just an idea.

If you only played SBF, and used those forums, you'd only be reaching a small fraction of the orbis games community. Same thing goes for all other games aside from VHR (VP being the second largest probably, but more kid based).

You'll have to expand on this. I didn't understand what you were trying to say.

You are actually limited to what you can advertise on the game forums. For example, you can no longer ask for real cash for art commissions, or advertise game money in exchange for real cash. Advertisements do not have to be strictly game related, for instance if a player has a professional web page design business, they can advertise that. We just have to make sure it's not pornographic and promoting illegal activities. If you ran a real life farm, and had a stud you wanted to put up, you can do that. I just want to keep the adds for game members only, and not the outside public (like you see on the non paid accounts).

If you search any other on line news letter, or even news paper, this is a extremely low price considering the number of readers it receives.

The problem there is that only SBF and Legendara use tokens. The tokens you purchase for this game, go towards Nef and the game. I would not be able to trade tokens to Nef for game credits. She'd be the one losing money instead.

All profits for this are going to contests and events hosted by the news letter. Right now we have the creative writing contest. In October we had a little Halloween quiz (that you didn't get any credit for). But with advertisements, we can now offer game credit for those nifty little quizzes. Additionally the reason why plan B is so low, is because we are putting the money back into the game as rewards for you guys. We've taken into consideration that not everyone has money to spare, and that a lot of players are actually kids. But $1.33 a month is NOT to much to ask when you look at the statistics.

That certainly changes things. I was assuming you meant only stuff to do with the game(s), such as when people are selling a bunch of AEs.

That would render most of my comments invalid. Sorry for wasting your time. Confused
