I have severe, severe dentaphobia. The subject even makes me shiver. I had a good deal of pain when my WTs came in, but I still got 'em. I figure I need all the wisdom I can get, especially now and for perhaps the next ten years. |

Heh, coincidence or what? I am actually on the waiting list for a op to get one of my wisdom teeth removed. I'm absolutley terrified. I hate hospitals at the best of times, but the doc said that it can't be taken out under local so they'll have to put me under.
I'm bobbing myself. I've never had to have a op before, but knowing that I'm not the only one, does help a little.
I will however be extremely glad when it's out, this will mean that I can have the other dental work done which is needed on one of my other teeth, and hopefully will stop the pain.
My wisdon tooth is growing sideways, causing a hole between that and the tooth infront. Food has lodged in there and started to rot the other tooth, very painful. But until the wisdom is out, the other can't be fixed. Humph.
But I hope everything goes alright for you, I'll deffinatly be thinking of you when I go under |

To all of you who are slated to get them out, I hope all goes smoothly and that you recover quickly!
Tasni, I hope that things continue to heal without much pain and that you're up-and-running at full steam soon!
I wasVERY lucky with my wisdom teeth... the bottom two never formed (I guess all that wisdom went straight to my brain where it's useable... HA! ). The top two were already half-dropped, but since they were cutting into my gums, they had to go. I insisted upon staying awake for the procedure to keep the need for anesthesia down, and under local, I did GREAT. The doctor was very skilled, and the two shots in the roof of my mouth didn't hurt - usually, the bruising and pain is with me for weeks, hence I ONLY use gas when minor procedures are being done, despite the pain.
I took my Bio. 202 and Anatomy 357 finals the next day and two more the following day, and I was good-to-go for all of em'!
I know there's a lot of horror stories out there, but don't psyche yourselves out... sometimes, it's really not bad at all!
Again, good luck folks... we'll be thinking about each of ya!

Good luck to everyone due to get theirs out!
Its just over 3 months for me since I got mine done, and its really great....I don't bite the insides of my cheeks half as much, I don't wake up with an aching jaw from putting pressure on it while I'm sleeping, and eating only mush after getting it done made me drop almost 10lbs bwahaha
Mash, I would have much preferred to get it done under local because I was absolutely bricking myself about going under general, but I had no choice, it was general or not at all and they were pushing my other teeth so much, if I'd waited much longer I would have suffered damage to the others....So I had to suck it up >.< I was so stressed about it the day of the op, my hands were shaking so much I couldn't fill in any of the forms
But all my fears were completely put at rest the minute I got into pre-op admission...The nurses couldn't have been kinder to me, and I was never left on my own for more than a couple minutes...Constant chatter definately stops you dwelling on how scared you are! I had two anesthetists ( can't spell ) monitoring me because I don't cope particularly well with it, but I never for a minute felt overwhelmed once I was in there...I didn't even feel the I.V being put in and I have very sensitive hands.......I truly hope your experiance with it will be as good as mine was! I felt pretty bleh for a couple days afterwards, but that was because I had puffed up like a football....I felt pretty good after that and kept getting better I'm almost all healed now, just waiting for my gums to move that last little bit back to a normal position and I'll be all set
Jokes help lol...What better way to drift off into la-la land than laughing? I was told I was being given a "gin and tonic" through the I.V...But when I hadn't slipped under after around 30 seconds, "Ooops, too much tonic and not enough gin!" Last thing I remember was laughing...Brilliant |

I had all 4 of mine out before they had even started to come through, so it was quite the "excavation". Then they all got infected. I vomited blood and puss for weeks and vomiting with stitches in your gums is NOT fun. Stitches came out and had to be re-stitched just for me to stretch them out again.
Getting my wisdoms out was terrible. Period. It was an awfull, awfull experience and...got my fingers crossed for whoever hasnt yet/is getting them done |

Not inspiring much confidence there Fawn
Well the hospital has phoned, but I was at work, so I phoned them back the next day. They said they'd have to phone me back. They didn't!! So I phoned AGAIN. And they put me on hold for like 20mins. I got annoyed, and was running late for work so I gave up. Gonna try again Monday.
But I hope it isn't long now as I'm in a considerable amount of pain, and I can taste blood a lot, which is slightly disconcerting.
Needless to say, I'm not a happy bunny lol |
