A little while ago I mentioned to a few people on here that I was enjoying the summer holidays over here at the moment, and I was instantly regaled with stories of how they were coping with snow and freezing temperatures while I was getting a summer tan.

Well, to all those who were feeling just a little bit jealous, I thought I'd let you know that I successfully managed to jinx it. Today the mercury soared up to 45.7 degrees Celsius (114.3 degrees Fahrenheit), which is our hottest day in 70 years. (Strangely enough only a few summers ago we had the hottest day in 66 years. I hope this isn't a trend...)

The last few days have all been above 40C (104F) as well, and the prediction for the next week is for temperatures all above 40 or very close to it (still well above 100F though).

Earlier this afternoon I put the thermometer outside in the shade and it read about 42C at the time, then I put it in the sun just for comparison but when I checked it later it was broken. It had managed to hit 60C (140F) though! The upper limit of the thermometer is 60C so I can't tell exactly what temperature it got to, just that it overheated sufficiently to break it. Confused

Well, now it's your turn to make me jealous with your stories of three foot deep snow or whatever else you're experiencing in Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Razz

Well where I live its about 25 degrees F (toasty compared to the -20 F yesterday) and the wind is blowing at 20 miles an hour(about 32 kilomiters an hour). Yesterday we had gusts up to 50 miles an hour (about 80 kilomiters an hour), so 20 mph seems peacefull and nice right now. Only about 6 inches of snow though. I'll trade you for a day or two lol. 140F! That's insane!

I'd love to have one of those nice, hot days to melt all of the accursed snow!!!

Jim loves the stuff, but I'm sick of it already... there's a pile the snowplower dumped in front of our house that's about 6' high!!! The neighborhood kids love it, but it really blocks the street and the view when I'm backing out.

Regardless if your temps are hot or cold, all of you dress appropriately and make sure you do what you must to keep those IRL pets SAFE!

I can relate. Today feels cool compared to yesterday, yet it's still above 40C today. Confused I suspect anything would feel cool compared to yesterday.

Crazzzyy Misty! I'm still jealous though Very Happy Actually I'd rather be cold than way to hot, much easier to get warm than it is to cool down Smile We've got muck. Lots and lots of muck. It snowed yesterday and now we've got a dump of rain so its all slushy. Snow is beautiful when there's lots and its fresh, but this is just gross and grey and miserable. Sighhh. I'm so pasty I cant wait for that summer tan!

Queso I hear you with the wind, these past few weeks have been pretty crazy where I am too. Buildings and highway signs blowing down and the like; it was calm enough to go for a walk today though Smile All the flats have been turned to lakes. I feel sorry for the growers and the equestrian center because that was the most intense flooding I've ever seen in person. Hundreds of livestock and horses evacuated. A barn roof blew off too Shocked I'm surprised we havent had more power outages...if only we could trade for a week or two Rolling Eyes

The hot weather's still continuing unabated. The heatwave has broken, but all that means is that the maximum temperature has now dropped below 35C, even if it's for only two days. Tomorrow will be 40C again.

The other day I heard it was going to be 33C in the near future, and without thinking I said "oh, that's nice and cool then." It was only afterwards that I realised the absurdity of that statement. 33C is hot in anyone's language, unless you've just been through a heatwave of several weeks above 40C, and how often does that happen?
