Both today and yesterday I got out of school because there was a blizzard! It's probably for the best though because I still have chemistry homework I need to do...
It was negative fifteen degrees today. And there's around three feet of snow on the ground, but at least the snow covered up all the ice. I haven't gotten to drive as much either because my parents don't like me driving in the snow. I hate winter...
Has anyone else gotten out of school/work because of the snow or because it was too cold? |

Are you a Midwesterner, too, Red? I haven't worked three of my 5 days this week because no one wants to brave the weather to get their dog's hair cut... I needed a little break after the holidays, but this is NO GOOD for my budget!

Yep, I'm a Midwesterner.
Aw, I'm sorry about that. This is just a horrible time of year for transportation. I was watching the news a minute ago and it's supposed to be 30 to 40 below here tonight! It should warm up next week though, at least where I live anyway. You should get a whole flood of customers after the snow starts to melt since the dogs had such a long time to grow out their hair. |

Another Midwesterner reporting in.....
I have been out of school some this week as well. Winter stinks so bad!! Winter care for the animals especially the llamas is really hard. Hoses freezing up, heat lights being put up, bundling up with atleast 4 layers etc..... that gets old pretty quickly atleast for me. I am really hoping that this goes away soon though it probably won't. Good luck with your business Aljan and good luck with your chemistry Redlaserfrog.
I am just whiling the hours away.......

Well, we didn't get all that much in the way of snow, but boy is it ever COLD. Last night was awful. I slept in my sweater, doubled up on blankets, and I was still freezing. Of course, the temperature was apparently somewhere around -5 with a wind chill of between -30 and -40. Which is a heckuva lot warmer than some places, but still far too cold for my tastes. As I was laying there shivering last night, I kept thinking, "This is ridiculous. The last time I remember being anywhere near this cold indoors was staying in a cabin with nothing but a fireplace for heat in the middle of December. And I think I was warmer then." Ugh.
And to make matters worse, I have a medical condition that makes me extra sensative to cold. My toes, my fingers, and oddly enough, my nose, are pretty much perpetually cold. Any extra exposure to low temperatures makes them turn funny colors and takes them ages to warm up again. It's most just a minor annoyance, but with the temperature what it is, it's that much worse. I've had to limit myself to warm beverages today because just getting something out of the refrigerator makes my hands so cold they hurt. Bleh.
And I'm rambling again. Long story short, I hate winter. |

Well...I just have to say...While I sympathize with the misery you are all going through...I loved hearing about it! Its so hot and humid here, reading about snow, I swear, made me feel cooler.....So thanks guys!
Hope it warms up for you...Winter is my preferred season, but we don't suffer from snow, just icy sleet and frosts...Snows about 4 hours south |

Soooo... who here had trouble getting their ol' vehicle to start! Mine was whining at me every day this week!!!
My van door on the side froze shut, and since that's the side I keep my equipment on when I'm traveling between shops (God, I hate this economy), it was tug-o-war time! Now I'm keeping it in the PASSENGER SEAT!!!!
I guess the moral of the story is live and learn!

Well, in December, the last weekend before we had our Winter Break at school it snowed a whopping 2 feet, which is A LOT for where I live, it snows but maybe once a year, and only about 3 or 4" at a time. It caused us to stay out of school for that whole week, meaning that our break was lengthened a whole week, a huge break of almost 4 weeks! It was great, I loved riding my horses in the snow and not having to go to school, and I also had some pretty great sledding stories as well. I am also an avid skier, so I just loved having the snow at home, enough to take my skis down to the park by our house and ski there! I built some little jumps and rails for skiing with my brother and some of his friends (I was the only girl) and it was so fun! I hope you've enjoyed the white stuff, it's great, especially when it takes time off of school!
