My mum said I can get a shetland pony for christmas. But with a small catch, I have to get a job first to pay for livery fees and hay and stuff. I know its not as good as getting a horse that I can ride but its better than nothing. I'm probably going to get one from ILPH as they have loads of companian ponies that need new homes. I'm so excited =). |

Congrats LouLou. Just don't think because its small that the work load is any less though. Shetlands can be more hard work than a 17hh horse. lol. Good luck with it though |

Wow! That's awesome. I hope you can find a job and go find your dream pony. Besides it's great of you to rescue him or her! That leads to... Are you leaning towards a mare or a gelding or just whoever catches your heart? Good luck! |

That's great! I have a Welsh/Thoroughbred cross and she is my Best Friend. Ponies rule! I am so happy for you. If you ever need any advice, ask me. What do you think you are going to name it?

Thanks everyone I'm hoping to take him/her on walks around the countryside near me as there are loads of bridle paths.
I'm sure it will be less work than 6 rabbits lol esp as at first I may start off at part-livery.
I'm going to get the pony that is the best as a first pony i.e good to handle, groom etc and doesn't have any special needs like weight monitering or suffering from sweet itch. |

ponies can be ridden as well, not sure with the shetlands pony what their weigth thing is, but i know there is plenty of fairly small ponies that has strength enough to cary grown men, may be odd due to length of leg or whatnot, but still...so just cause an animal is small dont mean it wont nesicarily not be rideable...i'd look into that if i were you, i wont say for sure but i think a friend of mine had one on lease once and she rode it, she is a small woman, but presumable your a kid or teen so you shouldnt be that big...anyway i'd look into that if i were you, cause even small as is i am sure it has more speed in it then you have so you would have an easier time training it enough if you could ride *s*
farm related critters was never created originaly as companion animals or pets, they always had a function so most of them are fairly resiliant |

The companian horses/ponies at ILPH are unable to be ridden. They suffer from back problems or are too old to be broken in. I wouldn't be able to afford a rideable horse from ILPH as you have to buy all the tack, rugs etc. They also cost much more for the loan fee. |
