my cousin and i caught a bunch of grass hoppers. with one we put in a container and we put that in a bucket full of water.
it didn't drown as we thought it would, so we buried it in a flower patch.
5 hours later we unburied it.
it was still alive. we reburied it. my cousin was having a sleep over.
in the morning he and i unburied it again.
it was still alive! |

Poor Grasshopper! I'm sure he/she didn't enjoy that very much! I hope you let it go eventually?! |

Hooray for the inquisitive mind! What is the fun in life if you don't experiment with grasshoppers?! My brother and I used to do alot of experiments with grasshoppers. There are plenty of them in the world so why not, right? haha |

It may only be a grasshopper but it is still one of God's creations and a living, breathing animal, would you do that to a cat or a dog? Shame on you! |

um, there are worse ways to go, like being fed to frogs, birds, lizards and other pets.
i am not saying that it was not nice to treat the animal like that, though it is how most humans have learned about the world. and we must remember that everyone on sbf is at the age they understand what is cruel and inhumane. |

I know that NOW guys, but seriously people...I was like 5. I didn't think about those things. It's five year old logic. Now that I look back I realize that, yeah it was a bit immature and cruel. You all have to realize that! Haha. I feel like I will be labeled as the "cruel Grasshopper Killer" now or something. |

there is no point of labels everyone has done something that might be taken as cruel even if they dont remember it, like pulling on a cat's tail when they were 2 or something. we just learn not to repeat them or encourage others to do then, that is all. |

i found out how it lived, being buried and all.
there was some type of tunnel right next to it that we missed.
my mom says they don't die easy. |

I done insect collection in the past, however they are "humanely eutanized" with ether or being put in alchol of specific type, they pretty much gone in seconds. It was a high school project for biology, we had to do a collection, and i chose insects over plants as i found it more interesting as a topic.
I would however not allow a kid to torture any animal for the fun of it, has to do with respect of life. |

To ignore the hijacking of this thread...
When I was younger, I once took a grasshopper & a plastic butchers knife & cut the head off. When I found the head hours later, the antennaes were still twitching. The friend is was with at the time, screamed and ran home.
Another time was when my neighbor & I took a grasshopper & tried to drown it, but it's like they can swom or something. So we took a stick & wrapped spiderwebbing around it, * then stuck the 'hopper onto the stick. It changed colors, it was purple one day.. Then it myseriously disapeared off the stick even though we were sure it was dead.
I used to be so cruel.

its just a grasshopper.
my back yard is an insect gold mine.
in fact we found 5 praying mantises.
2 where in my front yard 1 was in my back yard' and 2 were in a window well.
we had this idea to put them all in a the same container.
we went inside for lunch.
when we got back out there were 4 mantises 5, hoppers, and a mantises head and front legs.
we figured that the biggest ate him.
then right before we were going to the store' the littlest mantis ate a hopper.
oh, also in the window well that the mantis were in' were a lot of black widows. |
