My cat was left home alone with plenty of food and water. She somehow got trapped in the bathroom, which is the hottest room in the house and when we came home. She started running around, meowing very loudly and panting heavily. We always keep the bathtub with some water in it for her because she loves to splash around in it. So she had that water, but it was very hot in that bathroom. I'm very worried about her. She has no interest in food or water and she won't even play. She normally is very playful. Could this be very serious? Or is it just stress and over heating? We were gone for the whole day. I'm worried about her! |

Animals usually refuse food and water when they are really upset or stressed. Depending on how warm it was in the bathroom she could be overheated. Try wetting her a bit if you think it will help. It's possible she's just upset about being locked in a bathroom all day. Try to comfort her and pat her a lot. If she doesn't seem to suffering from any physical pain just keep an eye on her for a while and make sure she has access to sufficient food and water. If it seems more serious than that, or she hasn't improved by tomorrow, take her to the vet just to make sure she's ok. |

I personally think cats are just very sensitive animals. And yours may have just been unhappy about being locked up, especially if she isn't used to it. I would try and give her as much attention as possible and see if that helps with the playfullness. See if she'll respond to her favorite toy being dangled in front of her face. As for her appetite, I would offer her treats first, just to see if she would take them. If she does, then try and offer her some cat kibble with gravy (my cat LOVED chicken gravy). Maybe that will help! |

My personal advice....if unsure GET IT TO THE VET!
If it was as hot as you make out, the cat could be suffering from heat stroke which could be quite serious. I advize that in the future if the cat has to be locked in whilst you are out then "cat proof" the house. Make sure there is nothing it can harm itself on, and there is nowhere it can get trapped. |
