I have an issue that I need advice on. I like to breed cats, and my goal is to have atleast one of a few good species. Well, I'm breeding a bit to do that. For example, I breed my Maine Coon with a Sphynx cat. I end up with another Maine Coon, which I already have. I want to know, should I release as to not overpopulate the breed or give to a newbie who might need a starter? Or maybe release most but give away one or two? I'm hoping I don't end up with too many of one breed, but if I do... |

Thats a hard one...If you give it to away it won't be as rare due to inevitable overbreeding. But at the same time its almost cruel to release (in my opinion.) You could always sell it as sterile or sell it to a reliable person who you know for sure won't overbreed. anyway, just a suggestion =).

I know that if I give now someone who is new they might overbreed, so maybe give them a sterile but release most? That's more where I'm leaning. Any other opinions? |

have a look on the list and see if the breed is considered hugely overbreed, if so pending your cost of breeding, then i'd just release, if not then i dont see a harm in selling a couple sterille animals, or whole to persons you know you can trust if you are conserned over it *s*
if you are very unsure, then check if the breed creator still play and ask them what they think or feel around the subject |

Sarah, you seem such a nice person to be thinking about helping newbies along. I do strongly suggest though that you steralize (as has already been stated) before giving away. Please be careful with Main Coons as their numbers are slowly on the increase and we don't want them ending up worthless like so many other breeds before. |

Thanks:] I just know that when I started I was all crazy when I got an animal that was uncommon or exotic, so I would have been ecstatic if I had gotten an End cat. So, I plan on sterilizing one of each breed I end up extra with, give away, then release the rest. |
