We think my dog might be pregnant. We still have some time before we will know for sure but she is starting to put on weight. I hope she isn't, she went on season about 6 weeks ago and she was still outside with our males for a couple of hours when we weren't home and we didn't know she was on season cause she doesn't go on very often and i always keep an eye on our females so that we can seperate them from our males so that things like this don't happen. Anyway i've been really sick and busy with work and i didn't get a chance to check them for a couple of weeks and my mum can't do it and my brother is to lazy so it gets left to me to do it so we didn't know she had gone in season, i checked them before we went out and they seemed ok but when we got home a few hours later she was in season so we seperated them straight away. I am keeping my fingers crossed and praying that she isn't.

females have 2-3 seasons in a year, these aprear roughly the same time, so if you mark them down you should know when the next come

also the signs of one normaly come before the brood will stand, hence why breeders who have both genders even if separate them will test them against males to find when they stand, you then have some days they stand in before they are done standing and once again even if having season signs will not welcome a males effort

if your unsure take her to the vet and check it out,

and for the future, the vets actualy have a safety regret shot akin to that pill for humans that you can make sure, no mather wheter anything happened or not, the brood will not get pregnant and have puppies, this have to be set though fairly soon after a potential breeding may have happened

if she is pregnant its important to start training her not hard but enough to up her muscle mass by walking trips each day with her, and even when geting more pregnant keep it up just make them slow and low speed, its important that a dog is fit when giving birth to get an easier birth

i know roughly when she goes on as i said i just sought of lost track of time with everything that has been happening. She has had a litter before we just didn't want another one we are planning on getting her desexed, we just haven't had a lot of money lately cause i have been so sick that i haven't been working a lot. I know what to do with her it's basically just that we didn't want her to get pregnant again but you now there isn't much we can do if she is just grin and bear it lol Smile

Do you keep them specifically for breeding? i.e are you a registered breeder or is it a type of "back yard" breeding?

If you do not keep them for breeding and you have both male and female, me personally would get either the males or the females neutered (well actually I would get them all done, but thats just me). I understand that sometimes finances are not sufficient enough, but like I told people who wanted to adopt from the rescue, "If you can't afford vets bills you can't afford to keep the animal".

I know that sounds really bitchy (it's not meant to). I just wanted to get my point across.

Awww... I'm sorry about that.Hopefully she isn't pregnant but if it's a possibility then I can see why you're upset. You should probably get her spayed after this.If money's a problem some counties have free spay and neuter clinics. Smile
All in all have fun with her and possibly the pups for now.just make sure it doesn't happen again.

yeah we have to wait and see we were saving up now to get them desexed, don't get me wrong we can afford the every day expenses and we have a good vet that lets us pay off things so if it is expensive we have time to pay it off and we get a discount because my mum is on a disability pension, i know animals are expensive and a lot of responsibility but we do have that covered my animals come before anything else they are my number one priority. We were planning on getting them desexed before this happened again but we just weren't quick enough so to speak.

It's ok i have come to terms with it we have had pups before so thankfully it's not a new thing.

It's ok mash you weren't coming off bitchy i understand where you are coming from in the area i live in i see alot of dogs running around pregnant looking for food and it breaks my heart that people don't take care of their animals. It is a back yard breeding that won't be happening again lol.

I'll keep you posted as to what is happening
Thanx for letting me get it out i fell a lot better now Smile

yeah sadly so, people do abandon dogs here as well, but its nowhere near the problem we have with cats, like there is by now in many other countries where there as many stray dogs as there is cats

so for what its worth i think the stinking cost of even just buying a dog here helps some, along with all the other costs of registration and whatnot, though normaly this included in the price

in US dollar the price set as a minimum recomendation by the kennel club here is over 1000 dollar for a 12 week old puppy

and i know that those who get mixed breed litters even take some money sometimes for the cost they had in vacines and whatnot, so even those dont always come free, and in general there seem to be a lot less of them here i think then elsewhere

i know the abandonment rate for cats is extremely high in Australia it's horrible. I have a cat but we got him desexed so that he couldn't add to the growing population, and he is an indoor cat because people like to kill cats and dogs in my area. my old next door neighbour had a lot of female cats and she didn't get any of them spayed so they would have a litter of kittens every few months and it was horrible cause she never looked after them properly so a lot of the time the kittens didn't make it past 1 week. It makes me so mad Mad

at least here on the countryside most people have the sence to put them out instead of leting them suffer abandonment and whatnot

sad in one way, but taking realism into acount the rigth thing to do when the animals are unwanted and face no good prospect of good homing, better then tossing them out to see to themself and starve or whatnot

yeah that is very true, it may be cruel to just go and put them down but it would be more cruel to just dump them on the side of the street.
Actually that is how we got our girl she belonged to a my brothers friend
we call him A and where he lived his neighbour we call him B had three dogs and they would continuously bark and as she was only a pup of course she would bark back and the neighbour threatened to kill her so A said he couldn't keep her so my brother asked if we wanted her and my mum didn't want her because we had a cat and she had some problems with Blue Cattle Dogs in the past, so A said he would have to take her to the pound and that they were going to put her down because they said that cause of her breed she would be too hard to house and when they told us that we said we would take her, i mean she was barely 5 months old. I'm so glad we have her though she is gorgeous and she is the best dog ever. She is 6 yrs old now, and i love her to pieces so does my mum.

But like you said they can't all be that lucky Crying or Very sad

actualy as long as the animal never suffer i aint against death as a solution, if the only alternatives is high risk of a misserable life

the error of a wrong owner who do not have a clue what they are on about, and such can not give an animal the rigth upbrining to make it a healthy happy animal, is not covered in that book...i am very much against people puting down an animal due to behaviour caused by their neglect of knowledge in interaction with the animal, just so they can go get a new animal and say the old one was foul

these people however sadly are ignorant in their error, and blame the animal for a behaviour that they dont know they are the cause of, so they are highly likely to keep destroying animals in their lack of knowledge sadly...even worse so when they been given a clue from their soroundings about needing to change the act around the animal and it still lead to the animals death, due to them not really listening and such still keep being unable to deal with the animal

i totally agree with everything you are saying. The idea of people thinking that they can just have a dog put own so that they don't have to put up with it just really makes me mad. It's like what happened with dalmations after they made 101 dalmations people thought they were so cute and they went out and bought one only to find that dalmations don't stay little they do grow into a big dog and they didn't want that so they just dump them on the street somewhere. Or when they go and buy their kids a dog or cat for christmas and then they go on a trip and have to find somewhere for the animal, rather than put into a kennel or find someone to look after it they just dump it somewhere and go and buy another one when they get back and then the cycle just repeats itself because as you said people just have a lack of knowledge or if they do they just don't want to listen.

In a whole i'm not against death as a solution either if it means that the animal isn't going to suffer a horrible life.

thats one side of the issue

i am talking about the issue where thats not the issue but they have behaved wrongly towards the animal, so there are behavioural issues involved, they put the animal down as foul, and buy a new so they can make the same mistace over

you cant say a newlyborn puppy or kitten is born agressive in most cases, yes some breeds is breed on agressive behaviour but this is a selection process gone over time, and there is still enviromental effect that in most cases can have a say on the outcome

a normal dog of a normal breed that go agressive, its is most likely due to its upbringing, either misstreatment, or ignorance leading to let the dog become the dominant part of the relationship, thinking that it can figth humans for the leader position

the later if done something early on before it go to far can be turned around to be very good pets

same with having issues with potty training, chewing on funitures and the lot...its a behavioural issue, it has a reason, and it can be fixed if you can realise the problem initaly aint the dog, but yours or others actions towards the dog, change it and the dog will change

i get what you were meaning now and totally agree, Puppies and kittens aren't born aggressive they become aggressive through the way they are brought up. That's why i hate when people say that my Blue Heeler is a vicious dog just because of her breed any dog of any breed can be the most loyal and well behaved dog it just depends on how that particular dog was reared.

nods well as i said sertaint lines can be geneticaly more viscious because they have been selected for it

but your normal dog like a golden retriver aint naturaly agressive by breed, they are a hunting dog, though some are more selected as show and/or family dogs ...quite popular so...enough so i think by now that hunters have their own lines and normaly wouldnt just buy a random puppy, but make sure they got it of a hunting line
