I found a cat the other day and I need help thinking of a name for him. I was thinking either Salem or Binx. here's a picture of him:

Ahh bless. I think Binx is a good name. (salem is quite un origional)
Can I ask where you found him? And have you had him checked for a microchip to see if he belongs to anyone?
As long as you've advertised and contacted everyone (i.e police animal sanctuarys etc) to say he's been found, after a week if no one has come forwards he will legally become your animal |

Looks a little like my kitty Ninja. Is he neutered? If not, don't forget to do that ASAP. He'll be loads less likely to run away, won't spray, will live longer, and most importantly, will not be making lots of homeless pets that will end up in shelters. Cute kitty though...I'm very partial to black cats |

I got my rabbit spayed and my vet assured me that she would live longer, I'm not sure about cats, though. But I do know that it can prevent some health problems that can be deadly... does that count? |

Not really.. We asked the vet when we got our last two cats neutered if it would do anything but stop breeding and he said no.. so like.. it doesnt even stop spraying cuz my 14 yr old cat still sprays when hes not happy |

Neutering doesn't always stop cats spraying but it does reduce the amount of testosterone which is what generally causes male animals to want to mark their territory.
A lot of people dont realise that female animals also scent mark it just doesnt smell as much to humans, when a male is neutered it no longer has the same smell as an intact male so the smell is a lot less noticeable.
Back to the original topic though, that cat looks to be in very good condition so quite possibly has a caring home and family waiting for him somewhere. Well done for getting him checked for a microchip but it really would be worth you getting in touch with all vets/rescues etc for at least 5miles around in case there is someone looking for him. He certainly doesnt look like he's been straying for very long at all.
I've taken in lots of stray cats and dogs over the years and could never live with myself if I didn't do everything possible to find their homes, granted only three homes were ever found but it makes it worth it when you see people reunited with a much loved pet.
If you have no luck finding his home and keep him though I think Binx would be the perfect name for such a handsome chappy. |

Actually, it can. Spaying/neutering reduces and eliminates certain types of cancers that would otherwise shorten the animal's life. Spayed females will never get pyometritis, which can cause death if not addressed immediately. Granted, it's not definite that the animal will live longer, but there are fewer significant health risks. |

Something about that cat's face reminds me of Jafar. I dunno if you'd want to name the guy after a Disney villain though, heh. |
