*Rant Warning* I need to get my feelings out a little, so beware.

I was in a car a while ago, going to some place, and I looked out the window. I looked and saw another car drive by. And, you know, for a split second I thought, "I wonder who they are."
Someone was in that car. Someone I didn't even see. Someone that I will in all likelihood never see again. But they were someone.

Someone with hopes, dreams, intentions, feelings, emotions, problems. In short, someone with a life. And even though they are a complete stranger to me, they are not a complete stranger to some other people.

Life is all perspective. I bet, if I were that person in that car, I would care a whole lot about the person in that car's life. So my question is, why don't I, being me, care at least a little about that other person's life?

Now, I'm not saying that we should all go around trying to appreciate every complete stranger that crosses our path, that would be impossible. But think about it. Why are we humans so self-centered? We are the center of the universe, and everything that doesn't relate to us, doesn't matter. Entire wars have been fought because two sides are both sure they are right, that theirs it the better cause. But not everyone can be right. In fact, most of the time, everyone is wrong in one form or another.

That person in that car could've been sick. They could have been driving to the hospital. They could have been driving to work. They could have been driving across the country, for all I know. And I never will know. But just because I don't know, why should it mean anything less?

Why are my goals so darn important, that everything else fades according to their relevance to my life? MY life, MY goals, MY dreams. All of humanity is basically shouting out, "MINE!!!" Either that, or we're blaming things on others when our plans don't work out. "YOUR problem." "YOUR fault." We're all as bad as greedy 5-year-olds.

And you know what? The world would be a brighter place if everyone started saying "Ours." The world belongs to everyone. Everyone is entitled to the Pursuit of Happiness. Sure, they'll likely fail, but that doesn't mean that they can't try. And I think that if we could find it in ourselves to behave a little gentler to all of humanity, humanity might just return the favor.

We're in a type of viscous cycle. Everyone wants to take what they can, and give nothing back. No one wants to be the first one to give in and give a little of what they've got, because then they'd be worse off than the rest of us. But instead, we're all worse off than we should be. We all lose in our attempts to stay winning, to stay ahead.

So when no one is willing to lose, everyone does.

Now, this isn't likely to change. The world won't wake up one day and say "Hey, you know what? I'm going to stop being a self-absorbed jerk and actually give a thought to what other people think." And so, the few people who do, are likely to lose. They are likely to get taken advantage of, and they are likely to always end up on the bottom. But you know the only thing worse than beong pushed around by others is? Being pushed around by yourself. Being kidded into thinking that you are doing what is nessecary, what is right. Because there's only one right way to do things, and we're likely to be stuck trying alot of wrong things before we get it right. But you have to pick yourself up, say "I sure was wrong about that," and continue on. By refusing to acknowledge the things we wish not to happen, we're actually creating them.

the easy way out is not always the right way out. Or the best way out. Or the most enjoyable way out, even. All it does is put off the inevitable, which is even more horrible when it does come. Isn't that the way with everything, nowadays? TV offers you an alternate life, a place to make-pretend you are in a different world. People are selling happiness in small, expensive packages available in stores worldwide. And if that doesn't work, there's always some illegal drugs or a bottle of alcohol that promises relief. And you know where you'll end up? Broke, sick, and tired. Or maybe dead. Worse off than if you had just shut up and worked your way through things.

To quote, ironically enough, from a car commercial; "Instant gratification has us in a stranglehold. What ever happened to commitment?"

OK, rant over, cheers if you actually read that entire thing, thanks for putting up with me. :)

Wow.
You must type fast. lol.
But it's true.
Many of those thoughts have crossed my own mind...
...I've just never really voiced them or thought they mattered.

yeah, sorry guys, I was being a little random. I'm glad you all like. I should be a little more mellow for the next couple days though, I sorta got all my pent-up energy at everything out here. Very Happy

I truly like the perspective you are in. Many times I still wish I could turn into some other animal that was far far away from humanity. Smile
