Probably not exactly the right place to post this since its neither a display of art nor a request for some but.... ( If it needs moving, please do so Admins )
I'm needing...Lessons. Well, not exactly, but I need to pick the brains of the SBF artists...
I know diddly about any kind of digital art, but would like to start learning and practising....So I'm looking for advice on which things to use...Specifically which programs are reasonably priced ( or free lmao ) easy to learn how to use, but still produce quality images once you get the hang of it....I have a stack of linearty things to practise things like colouring etc on, but after that, which things would I be needing to draw my own art and transfer it into a program for digital painting....Etc etc and so on and so forth....
Any help and advice would be GREATLY appreciated since my artistic skill is practically nil and...yeah

As for free programs, I'd suggest GIMP. If you want to go all out and get a great program, it'll cost you. Like photoshop, GIMP has the smudge tool, pen tool, and you can noise change sizes. With a bit of patience, you can come up with some great pieces!
I can link you to some. And I think Mute used GIMP..
All drawing is, is a basic knowledge of anatomy. |

You might be able to find a free download of opencanvas somewhere, not real sure, but it's a fairly excellent program as well.
^^
Well, I sketch in it anywho. xD Just starting to try coloring, but so far I like it. ^_^ |

Thanks Rio, I'll look into it
I can't draw my way out of a damp paper bag but I'm hoping that'll improve....

Do you have a tablet, Vitani, or just a mouse?
If you have only a mouse, I'd recommend GIMP. Photoshop and Opencanvas are excellent programs, but for starters, GIMP is good.
Do you want to draw and color, or do you want to do photo manipulations/edits?
Just to let you know...be prepared to spend hours on the comp now, cos getting involved with any types of art in a digital method will become slightly addicting :b |

Yes indeed. I doodle even though I'm horrible at drawing. I have basic anatomy down, putting things together is my problem.
Sure Tani. I'll message them to you. |

I think you can download a 30 day trial for Corel Painter somewhere, its similar to RL painting. If you really want to go heavy duity into computer stuff, I would reccomend getting a tablet, the Wacoms come with photoshop and corel painter too. They're around 100 bucks though for the cheapest one though, so I would sugest using gimp for a while so you can decide if you realy are comitted. If you want tutoring send me a pm |

No tablet, just a shonky mouse and a very unsteady hand...Not the ideal things for art...I can't even walk a straight line, let alone draw one...
I'm being sent Paintshop by a friend to trial...Not sure of the version, and I'm going to try and d/l GIMP even though it'll take forever so I can try and use both of those to figure out which works best for me...
Mostly interested in drawing/colouring, but I'd like to get into manips too...
Bwahaha Kat, as if multiple hours a day on SBF aren't bad enough...I don't know how I find time to do "real life" stuff as it is....Could be the fact I only sleep around 4 hours a day
Thanks so much for the advice guys...It's very much appreciated *brings out newly made fudge ripple cookies* |
