and here is another chapter:

Mara knew that warble snorters were dangerous and to be avoided but she saw a friendliness in the huge green beast. She noticed that he patting something in his giant hands. A white duck with brown speckles along it’s back. Todd jumped of the horses back and landed on ground next to Mara. “What’s so special about the duck, Todd?” Mara asked. “Well, we saw it lying wounded on the road and Gerald picked it up gently and now he’s took care of it since. Even though Gerald can’t speak he can read, write and spell. He has decided to name it Trevor.” Todd replied.
“Trevor? What an odd name?” Mara said to herself.
“Ay, the name’s odd but we can’t do anything about it. When Gerald makes ‘is mind up he makes ‘is mind up.” Todd said.
Gerald turned to Mara and Todd and put Trevor down next to them. Trevor looked up and saw their horrified faces looking down on him.
“Well doesn’t a duck get a little bit of courtesy now and again?” Trevor asked. Both Mara and Todd jumped back in horror. All of Mara’s animal friends walked over to the duck and started sniffing. Ozzie, the leader of the pack, a wolf, make no move to harm the duck but sniff and clean Trevor. Trevor seemed to enjoy all the attention but Mara suddenly realised she could hear a fait sobbing coming from the cart. She looked up and saw Gerald’s eyes filled with tears.
“Gerald,” Mara called softly. Gerald looked up at Mara and half- smiled. He held out his hand to the ground and beckoned Mara to get on his hand. Another of Mara’s favourite animals was a fox named Stout. He placed himself as Mara’s bodyguard. He could sense the slightest taste of danger but he was making no move to signal to Mara that Gerald was dangerous. She reached over and touched one of Gerald’s fingers. It was warm and smooth. Then she asked, “Can Stout please come too?” Gerald nodded and then Mara and Stout carefully climbed into the centre on his palm. Everyone turned and looked astonished at Gerald as he took his hand up to his face and took a good look at her.
“Now Gerald, put ‘er down.” Mara turned to see Todd looking firmly at Gerald.
“Calm down Todd,” the voice of Trevor floated through the air.
“Know-one’s ever done this, Gerald is dangerous,” Todd replied. Gerald gave out a sob of anguish and turned his hand down. Mara started rolling down of the palm of his hand and started falling directly towards the spikes on the horse’s amour. Stout hung on in shear terror as Gerald’s hand plummeted down under Mara and caught her just before impact happened. Mara lay motionless on Gerald’s hand to calm her down. She felt his hand lower and Todd picked her up in his powerful arms and laid her gently on the ground. She opened her eyes and sat up. Everyone was crowding around her looking down. “Mara, why are you escaping?” Todd asked gently.
“Because I’m not safe,” she lied.
“Mara, tell me the truth,” he said sternly.
“I’m going to find my parents,” she half lied.
“Mara!” he said firmly.
“Ok, ok, I heard a voice inside my head, a child, screaming and I knew I must find him. I was also given this,” she clasped her rucksack and took out the topaz key. Todd simply stared at the key placed on her hand. “Why I’d never seen this before with me own eyes. Mara there are only two of these in existence,” he said shocked.
“What does it do?” Mara asked.
“Why it opens up into other worlds but there is only Elaine Walker who knows how to use it.” He said
“That’s why I’m going there, to find this child,” she continued.
“Well we mustn’t hold you up. Gerald is certain that war is coming. If you ever need our help again pull this.” Todd leaned over to Gerald’s bent head and plucked a single hair from his mass of threads. Todd passed the hair to Mara and she tucked the hair in her pocket. “It seems that I must part from you now,” Mara said regretfully. Mara hugged Gerald, Todd and Trevor individually. Todd jumped on to his horses that had now turned back into horses and called Gerald and Trevor. They started down the road as Mara and her animals flocked to watch their departure.
When the cart was nearly out of sight Mara turned and started walking along the road with the stars to guide them.

that's a long one
