Cool, so rats are like little dogs? I want a pet rat now. But my hamsters aren't evil, they like to cuddle up with us and when I stick my hand in the cage, they will climb right in it. So can I teach a rat to fetch?

If you are joking, well I am going to answer you seriously anyway. Rats can fetch, my rats do actually, but you can't always rely on them to bring it back! Sometimes they will hide the toy under the bed. Smile

From my experience with Hamsters, I prefer Rats. My friend's hamster seemed to like the flavor of my finger. >.<

Not only can u teach them to fetch, u can potty train them, Teach them to play games against each other (soccer, basket ball, Ect..) u can teach them thier names. and tons of other things.

REMEMBER IF U DO GET A RAT OO ANY OTHER PET RESERCH THEM FIRST RATS ARE EASY TO CARE FOR IF DONE RIGHT. BUT THE INITALL COST CAN BE ANY WERE FROMM 30-300 DOLLARS IF DONE RIGHT. ALSO THE VET BILLS CAN PILE UP FAST!!!!!

Any animal can rack up vet bills. Of all the rats I've owned, I had one that had to go to the vet with something we couldn't take care of with our ratty first aid kit and that wasn't illness, she'd received a scratch in the corner of her eye while playing and needed drops we didn't have.

Anyone looking into rats check with reputable breeders. Petstore rats can make good pets but nearly all of them are bred for food, the breeders aren't worried about breeding healthy animals together. Don't take anything any one person or one site says as law though. Talk to several people if you can (most petshop/store owners know very little about the animals they sell, look for a breeder--they can be found online if needed.)

Wow, a hamster would never do that. Hmm.....it seems like rats are pretty fun pets. But don't think I'll be able to get one since I already have six hamsters. Also I understand the vet cost, my hamster had to be taken to the vet for mange or mites, don't remember. He had to have a shot and it ended up costing about 100 plus dollars. But I wish I could have a rat, they seem really interesting.
