My Hamster had to be put down :'(

My hamster didn't look right so we just took her to the vet and the vet said she wasn't gonna get any better so she put her down Crying or Very sad

Although she was 5yo (ancient for a hammy) she looked as though she was gonna make it to christmas day and i had bought her a christmas prezzie as well, all my animals get one.

I guess ill just have to keep he prezzie to remind me of her.

Please someone cheer me up. Sad

forgive me, I am not very good at cheering people up, and I hardly know what to say to the threads, but they make me so sad and hurt inside, but it also makes me happy, because the person cared enough about their pet that they made a thread about the incident. Smile

You should be very proud though that you provided the very best care possible for her up untill the end. Most hampsters never get vet care or the the peaceful ending your's got. I'm so happy for your hampster, she had wonderful owner and got to go peacefully.

I'm so sorry about that, it's a terrible loss. I myself have had four hamster losses and currently have six hamsters. Anyways your is in a better place, I never made it in time to put them down which they would be better off doing. Anyways, your hamster lived for 5 years, I've never heard of that, it's remarkable. It shows how much you cared for it and cared for it to actually take it to the vet. My hamster will probably never live that long and your is in a better place. It was just time for it to go, but it went knowing how much you loved and cared for it. Hope you feel better.

thanx for your comfort guys you don't know how much it helps, no matter how many times i say to myself 'right next time im not going to feel as sad' it still manages to pull a heart string and recieve a tear, no matter how big or small the animal is.

The main thing that got me though is how small an animal can touch you deep down, and it made it worse that she had lived so long for me to get so attatched, its just a shame she couldn't of survived through the night for christmas day and spent one more day with us but it was not to be and would of been unfair because you could see she was suffering.

Charlie 1: Thank you, but Im sure your hamsters will get that far, just be sure to give them their five portions of fruit and veg a day Wink
